A recruiter from Amazon scheduled me a phone conversation with a hiring manager. So I took it in my room, cozy in my PJ's, but the manager decided he wants the video enabled. And that's when I realized what he's seeing right behind me...

    Could be worse.

Cute ducks and penguins? I expected much worse

@irene Nothing wrong them, it's just not something I would normally bring to an interview.
It's not very helpful to my effort of portraying myself as a capable adult.

Well the fact all is clean and in place shows too much about how organized you are, that video call was a sudden thing, and not something you prepared just to show off

No, they're googles from webkinz! Or at least they look like them.

(yes, that is the name of one of their virtual animals, dont ask me how that works legally)

    Awww, how cute! ^^
  • 3
@gitpush Well, I was really lucky that day - we have a maid coming over to clean once a week. The interview took place 30 minutes after I returned from work so I had no time to mess it up again.

@irene @tokumei They are actually made by Chosun. They are quite different from the webkinz ones. They were advertised as duck/platypus but they're neither I guess, as they have no wings or tail. I got the big white one as a toddler (23 years ago), and decided it was a duck back then. so it's a duck.

@irene Geese have wings though. Mine are wingless :)
    They're just cutelings.
  • 2
@NickyBones capable adult.. now you scared me.. I will soon need an extra room for my plushies.. o.O
  • 2
@sladuled It's merely the facade of a capable adult. You can have a mansion full of plushies, just let your boss know about it after you're hired :D
  • 3
@NickyBones hahhaa true! But they'd be much more awesome to hire you anyways, based on your skills & love the duck/platypus/goose thingy on the way! ;)
  • 2
@irene Well, all my bosses and interviewers so far were males. From geo-cultural perspective, the chances of them being plush-lovers are extremely low...

    I want them

Aside from that I get what you mean:

    They're cute 😊 (i love stuffed animals)

If you really own the chill cozy look he’ll think it’s awesome and it’ll make you stand out against other applicants
  • 2
@SauceBoss I'm actually quite surprised I only got one tasteless response such as yours. It's sort of OK to be crude if you're at least funny, but in your case your'e just plain crude.

@FelisPhasma You don't think it would suggest I'm not serious enough about the role?
  • 2
Your room looks too clean and organized to be real. :)
    Also I like the minimalism.
  • 2
@Noob Most stuff are just on the other side of the room (desktop/library/closet). And it's only clean and organized because it was that exact same day in the week we have a maid coming over. The other 6 days it looks like a trailer park :D

    @irene After my next interview screw-up :)
  • 2
@NickyBones when I did my first internship a couple years ago I was impressed by how casually people dressed. The dev world is pretty chill and as long as you did well with the rest of the interview I don’t think you’ll be in bad standings for the position
  • 1
    Must have been qwakward
  • 2
@SauceBoss Use your mighty collection of dildos, I suppose.
  • 1
@FelisPhasma Does causal dress extend to
    PJs? :)
  • 1
@NickyBones I don’t think I saw someone in PJs while I was there however I doubt anyone would have thought twice about it!
  • 2
Developers truly don't tend to dress well. The vast majority just wear tshirts and jeans / shorts with slippers.
If you dress just a bit fancier, you immediately get called a sales person.

    How did it go?
  • 1
@Prophetcrysis The role was not what I wanted (it was proper software engineering when I wanted something more research-y). But the interviewer was really nice!
  • 1
@NickyBones Once you get into the company, you can always move to the research roles internally.
  • 1
@Prophetcrysis They want a PhD for these groups...I checked with people who work there.

@irene That's only 24 hours since the maid was here :)
  • 0
@irene Nah...Having a someone come to clean for a couple of hours every week is very common here. Most middle-class households can allow it.
  • 2
@irene Then why am I working? Where is all the bling I should be showering in? :D

    Better than seeing this 🤦‍♂️

@NickyBones got pile of anime figures and Jordan sneakers on another wall. So my computer is facing the bright side of my room🤦‍♂️
  • 1
@sunfishcc I got a collection of figures from my favorites games (LoZ, FF). So you other wall sounds pretty neat :)

@irene if you mean the middle bottom one, then yes?! I have full collection of good smile racing miku from 2010😉
