    And that, my children, is why monopolies are bad things.

    Wouldn't be too hard to write a local man-in-the-middle server (like Fiddler) that would essentially replicate an ad blocker's function. And that would be completely sparate from chrome so they can't do anything about it.

    In fact, after reading that article, I might make a software like that.

    @SparkyTD so like blokada? Or a hosts file on pc?
  • 1
    @fuck2code I was thinking maybe something a bit more advanced than a host entry.

    @SparkyTD still, as the actual mechanism that blocks things the hosts file is ideal.

    @amatrelan I have to raise awareness for PiHole here. It keeps your whole network ad free. This includes devices without Adblock capabilities like Kindle Paperwhite.

    If they keep up with this direction, Google Chrome might be just mostly used for downloading videos, since it's the best for it (like Google likes to give tools himself to bypass age filter and protection from DLing YouTube videos...) (unless I missed some user agent option in Firefox or another browser), in the same way as IE would be used to check if your browser really is compatible with everything.
    In the end, Firefox or Opera would be used for the rest and maybe more.

    (totally not praising Firefox, don't @ me)

    @KuroTenshi67 m8 you don't need a browser for that, you need youtube-dl

    @SparkyTD there's an RPi kernel for this specifically.

    @fuck2code but HOSTS has an upper limit on how many entries it can handle before net access borks!
