    This is how you end that relationship.

    Next time you see the CEO mention how nice it is to work with someone with whom the CEO instills so much trust, that it's almost like working directly with "CEO".

    Follow it up with questions about how long they've been friends and how they met.

    Chances are very likely this guy is a lying piece of shit and is name dropping. That, or, they're embellishing greatly. If that's the case, he will be under the scrutiny of the CEO henceforth.

    If they really are good friends, by feigning interest you could also find your way into his good graces.

    Refuse to work with him. If it comes down to it make your president choose between the two of you.

    Have the balls to walk and blast him on the exit interview.
