No it's not AI. YOU ARE RUNNING FUCKING SQL QUERIES AND CALLING IT AI!
No it's not AI. YOU ARE RUNNING SIMPLE DATA ANALYSIS MACROS AND FUNCTIONS IN EXCEL!
Stop labelling everything as AI, you attention and investment seeking morons! @&£$¢×xo##!29 -
Three days ago I wrote a comment:
"It's weird how the internet shifted from protocols to platforms.
Devs still know the plumbing, but for most people IRC became Whatsapp, FTP became Dropbox, RTSP became Netflix, SIP became Zoom and RSS became Google Now... so people might eventually forget about SMTP and this whole "email" hype.
In a decade or two we'll have forgotten about URLs and HTTP and the "internet" as well. You just pay your monthly $10 sub to Google or Amazon or Apple to have your condensed streams of memes & bait funneled right into your eyeballs."
And now Chrome devs are considering removing URLs just like in Safari, just showing the domain you are on....
Enjoy your retard web, people.
What's next, new Macbook & Chromebook standardized designs to prevent people from being confused?43 -
I AM SO FUCKING TIRED OF BUSINESS MOTHERFUCKERS USING TECHNICAL FUCKING BUZZWORDS LIKE THEY KNOW SHIT ABOUT TECH! THEY TRY TO BE FUCKING SMARTASSES AND ARGUE WITH DEVELOPERS LIKE GOD KNOWS WHY THIS FUCKING DOUCHE IS NOT THROWN IN /dev/null YET!
Ugh. He try to sound smart and argued with a unity game developer why the dev is not using "react" and "redux" in his game, purely because "since its the hype in 2016"... I was like really nigga?? FOR FUCKS SAKE Do some research before you say! Then he argued with a senior full-stack web developer on why they're using ES6 and not ES7, purely because he heard that ES7 is newer. When we try to explain we're not using decorator syntaxes since we use pure functions in our codebase, or how we haven't installed any ES7 babel plugins to transpile our code, he kept saying ES7 is newer and cooler and we must use it somehow... More to rant but i am fucking tired right now...14 -
Not so much screaming as staring in disbelief, mumbling profanity in his direction...
When my department lead said "I don't think this unit testing hype or code reviews make much sense, it's more efficient to just make a checklist and test the application yourself"
This was the QA department of an aerospace company, we wrote NDT software to do image recognition on xrays of alloy welds and micrometer laser measurements on fuel tank surfaces. Software which is quite mission critical, a single misrecognized welding fault could literally cost up to half a billion dollars — not to mention that it's a very sabotage & espionage sensitive industry.
After raising some hell he was replaced though.3 -
Don’t fall for the hype. Software is not only FAANG, ridiculous perks and fancy corporate offices. It’s a job to give you the things you need to pursuit other things.
Just don’t be a salaryman/salarywomen. There is more to life than that.19 -
Let's settle this:
Blockchain is just a dumb database, the feature that makes it amazing is trust-less ness.
Its not meant to make a decentralised uber or a Tic-tac-toe game.
Leverage the advantages of the system and solve real problem.5 -

Got this old girl from a reseller on Ebay. I wanted to know if they were worth the hype.
It was made in Aug `89, my birthday. It's almost 30 years old and will likely outlive me.10 -
I am really going nuts about everyone using ChatGPT. Had literally discussions 'bUt cHaTgPt sAyS iTs TrUe', when the docs said clearly thats not the case.
Also the "code" produced is just what the hell?!
I hope this damn hype will end soon12 -
You are a consultant and wrote some easy scripts by copying code snippets together?
Good for you!
It makes your job easier?
Good for you!
You didn't care too much about UI because you only needed the job to be done?
That's fine!
BUT DON'T YOU DARE SELL THIS SHIT TO A CUSTOMER AND CALL YOURSELF A SOFTWARE DEVELOPER!
YOU ARE NO DEVELOPER!
YOU DON'T KNOW NOTHING ABOUT HOW TO BUILD A RELIABLE SOFTWARE.
no one needs a solid database structure?
Object oriented programming is "just another hype"?
No one cares for the coding?
FUCK YOU, AND YOUR ATTITUDE!7 -
"ChatGPT passed an interview for Google"
"I ask to ChatGPT to write my new song"
"What ChatGPT tells about our humanity"
"ChatGPT pooped its pants"
I'm the only one sick of seeing articles, posts and threads about Chat fucking GPT?! I can't wait for the hype to die out... or for someone to build a time machine able to bring me back to 200918 -
😩 That moment when you finish a project (part), close browser tabs close tons of terminal windows, quit a giant ide.. and you realize that you forgot a thing.. 😩12
-
A little while ago, my hackathon group started using Go more than Node....
I had to ask...
Where did all the Node hype Go?6 -
Apple took a major step
3 party manufacturers created a hype and addressed this step as a problem
Then make products to solve the pseudo problems
Smart business idea 😂😂😂
Lol😂😂11 -
As a lifelong Windows user who recently started using a Mac (for iOS dev), I have to say, my mind is blown. I now get the Mac hype.8
-
Seriously, why would some companies reduce the life span of the poor candidates with immensely stressful interviews for works that aren’t actually worth the hype?7
-
Took a headoverheels digger on my bike today, groceries went flying, chinos even ripped on the asphalt, first thing this lady bystander says is RAAAAAAAAAAAAA THIS IS A PEDESTRIAN ONLY STREET!!!!!
I'm like no it's not, look at the sign
nO iTs BeEn WrITtEn FoR 2o YeArS, pEdEsTriAnS onLy!!!!!
sure enough at the end of the road, says pedestrians AND bikes allowed... 🤡🤡🤡🤡
stupid bitch, if you're gonna be a bitch at least be right about it
honestly i'm not sure how people navigate through the world, just floating around, no REAL knowledge or consideration of anything, just ideas, hype, and idiotic "feelings"6 -
How can business majors be so gullible?! Who the fuck poisoned their minds with the app hype ?!!
Seriously my tears are 90% from laughter and 10% shame for humanity.
Friend: "Dude I'd like to consult with you the idea of an app...etc"
Me: "Sounds nice, got a business plan?"
Friend: "Yes, but well...you see... development has already started"
Me: "oh cool, how's that going?"
Friend: "well I already made an upfront payment of 2K dollars"
Me: "sounds kind of excessive for the amount of work...wait did you said upfront payment?"
Friend: "yeah, we calculated 30k total"
😐
Me:"umm...that software must be...special...? Can I see it?"
Friend: "that's the thing, they haven't delivered"
Me: " did they give you mockups? A development plan? Demo? Anything?"
Friend: "umm no"
Me: "a god damn receipt?"
Friend shows me a piece of paper with the name of the guy and 2K written on it.
Friend: "he says he's been busy, I wanted your advice"
I blame Eduardo Saverin's fate and my friend's on college's failure to teach "real world assholes 101"7 -
Seriously? Javascript is the best?Javascript is the future?
Dont get me wrong. I have to use angularjs and nodejs in my work so I am quiet familiar with them. Js csn be usefull and make things easier and simpler but it comes with a price... You can do someting in third amount of effort but you have to debug three times more. Yes you can use typescript but thats not an option always. What about single threaded design yes you can use callback and promises but really? Thats the way it is should be working? And what about that if you need one functionality than you dowbload a module but with that you are started to depend from other 737373737 packages.
I am just simply not getting this hype around JS.24 -
Didn't know the new hype operating system "others", but with 704% market share it's gotta be amazing!1

Yeah sure, the Metaverse will be bigger than the Internet.
I really believe that. Short of a system collapse, there's nothing which will stop some Web/VR/AR amalgam from eventually going mainstream. If anything, a prolonged pandemic will make humans hunger for more digital entertainment and socializing options.
Might take 5 years, or 25, but it will happen in some form. Eventually, people will even readily accept various augmentations to their bodies to further immerse themselves and connect to digital experiences.
BUT:
We're still pre-bubble.
Does no one remember the dotcom crash?
Facebook/Meta will become the new Yahoo, decimated to a sliver of its former glory. Million dollar hype NFTs will become the new $10 parked domain names. 99.99% of all current efforts and content will end up like a modern day Geocities Archive.
So yeah... when I read that my pension fund is considering "investing in metaverse technologies"...
...you fucking bet it's time to transfer to a different fund!22 -
Makeshift standing desk to see if the hype is actually worth it or not.
10 minutes in: Not really feeling it. Could be because it's 1:20 and I'm slightly tired, or it could be the fact I'm kinda lazy lol3 -
Bloody shit, I hate all the hypes right now.
Seemingly everyone is going from 0 to zealous hype at the moment...
Be it Musk's fanboys (that arsehole must have a prolapse), the mfucking GPT chatbot or anything else.
Everything's hyped up and noone talks about normal stuff...
... and when you point that out, everyone gets angry for reasons I cannot understand.
We had so many good inventions and progress in science this year (despite the world being pretty apocalyptic....), but seemingly everyone can only talk about either Twitter or their Twitter timeline. -.-
The Christmas bullshitting was hard enough each year, as it has nothing to do with being a festive event and love etc, but being just an commercial bullshit bingo...
But adding all the hypes makes the bullshit parade unbearable.
Dear Santa, please fry all the mobile electronics at Christmas, so we can talk about normal stuff and have a nice evening.
... Would be probably even better to just fry all electronics, even stone age was probably more interesting than the earbleeding conversations at the moment.19 -
I have not gotten a single Christmas call/card this year. Feels good :)
I dont like the hype around Christmas.3 -
I finished my software development apprenticeship and aced the presentation about the software I built for the company.
I'm so happy that I no longer have to go to that workplace anymore.
Most people were toxic, rude, incompetent, slow, entitled, insulting, screaming and fake.
Most were uncommunicative.
Management was shit.
CEO was shit.
HR was nice.
But the rest of the devs were ok, kind and helpful.
Now I'm taking a big vacation to calm down from the years of torture before I can start working as a dev again.
That includes motorcycle driving, chilling with my gf and trying out NixOs (wanna see if it is really worth the hype)11 -
Hope you survived the Monday;)
As I promised, I’d like to post my comic series “Destory” here regularly.
A story about two devs and their funny but serious project, on the hype technology - the blockchain.6 -
Who the fuck decided that serverless computing is a good name for something that isn't serverless?7
-
A friend actually asked me this..
He is building an android app for selling his stuff and haven't used hashs for storing passwords..11 -
So now that Covid is apparently "gone", management wants us to come to the office to participate in daily team building events to hype up people to commute full time...
but still gotta finish those milestone deliveries while having too many meetings and deadlines.
Murphy is watching us from above with a shit-eating grin. -
A lot of online games (mainstream) tend to make me kind of angry or stressed. Lots of either blatantly stupid or negative players kill the fun.
A few days ago I've startet to see videos about "Among Us". It's on a big hype right now and their machmaking servers must be glowing.
Well, this game is fucking awesome and it makes me really happy! 😊
Nothing beats a 30 minute game of lying, betrayal, teamwork and good old 30'000 IQ big-brain detective work.
I think it's a great execise for remembering stuff.
You remember colors, who's said what and who faked or did which task. And the hardest part is, even if you fucking saw the killer, you have to present the facts in a way that people believe you.
Each round is unique and full of riddles.
Yeah, I just wanted to say: Fucking great game 😄2 -
just saw a tweet praising a company because of their choice to use swiss servers and they had a pompous sentance in parenthesis like (upside to banking secret culture)
like, dude, at the end of the day, guaranteed their 'server' is just a linux box somewhere, just like anywhere else in the world just STFU
god i HATE ignorance, hype, and stupid tropes that managers just automatically subscribe to with their 2 brain cell NPC brain4 -
There is a possibility that I might maybe hopefully get a laptop if I help my dad with one of his own long-term projects.
If this actually happens, I don't have to run Linux of a SD card anymore :D2 -

TFW your graphics ASM code works on the first try.
Yes, it just happened to me, and it's a relatively annoying rectangle drawing routine.
Writing complicated ASM code and making it work on the first try is definitely a new thing to me, I feel so powerful! >:D4 -
Guys do you know some good music for coding ???? I really need to inject hype or relaxation into the long long way of coding ?? If you know any good playlist in spotify for coding please say in comment
Thanks.21 -
There's so much hype and bullshit around Machine Learning (ML). And if I have to read one more crappy prediction of who survived on the Titantic, I'll go postal.
So, what real-world problems are you using it to address...and how successful has it been? What decisions have you supported using ML? What models did you use (e.g. logistic regression, decision trees, ANN)?
Anyone got any boringly useful examples of ML in production?
And don't say you're using it to predict survival rates for the design of new cruise ships...although, to be fair, that might be quite interesting...6 -
Really loving Processing and HYPE.
Created this Image after a day's work. Here is 10x10 pixel block is an image of Mohanlal (An awesome actor from kerala).
I took the average color of each block and then matched it with the most dominant color of the sample images. And then drew the sample image onto that box.
Thanks Daniel Shiffman for the inspiration.5 -
I'm on this fair and there are suits walking almost everywhere!
Even in the "Tech" area.
Like 'a-bit-to-confident' ducks with their heads up in the cloud exposing their throat while walking right into my sharp blade. Inexorable stumbling headless right over the edge of the next bridge, hitting the rails with their rubies. Helpless, waiting to get caught by the next hype-train.
*sigh*rant two-face everywhere masquerade walking talking farting ducks ducks everywhere they won't help me debug my shit17 -
I was reluctant to try out flutter earlier on because of claims online stating that hybrid frameworks aren't there yet. That's one hell of a crap!
I fell in love with flutter after completing my first flutter app. Shit was just too easy. So many helpful libraries which has eased my overall workload lately.
We built a Native Android app which took 2months+ to complete and I just finished porting it to flutter for iOS and Android in 3 weeks. Boss was happy, Client was happy, I am freaking joyous, everybody is happy!
From the mouth of a Native Android Dev with over 5yr of exp. This shit called flutter is worthy of all the hype. I fucking kid you not!
I don't know about the past... I assume it was shitty then cus I also blasted it based on git issues but now it seems even more faster to build production worthy apps than anything I've encountered.4 -
Has anyone else noticed when ever a question of what framework to use where React could apply, people have the shittiest reasons for using it.
"React is gud, you should use it. Ima say React a few more times to sell you on it."
"React makes my code better so it's gud."
"React react react react react."
Do your research guys, don't trust this hype-driven bullshit.16 -
So hype for our first First Robotics competition in Barrie Canada with @ewpratten and @hyperlisk. It's going to be awesome!4
-
All the hype with Node JS. All the hype with GCP and Datastore. Takes 24h to even get started. But again, what's wrong with me?
-
CppCon2017 is COMING guys!! All these crazy speakers and conference! I won't say their names because they are too many x) But... FUCK ! That's the only moment I wish I lived in USA... No streaming, can't go... Only one thing to do, wait the upload on YouTube...
When I see people hyped about GoT or whatever... Guys this is the REAL HYPE!!!4 -
Apple event was so underwhelming after seeing new MS products. I don't buy into that Touch Bar hype.
Still I'm gonna go for MB Pro w/o Touch Bar. It will be my new PC5 -
-Learn Python
-Use Python to create a game on a GameShell...
-Get a 3D Printer (Its on its way(HYPE))
-Learn how to use Fusion 360 (Kill me pls its so hard)
-Learn how to use Simplify 3D
-Use 3D Printer to print Ducks and stressballs...1 -
"Don't fall for the hype. A lot of ideas, groups and methodologies are basically cults trying to advertise their consulting services. While I have no problem with that, just remember that when you run into one of these guys and they are quick to shit on the alternatives to their way (and those who built them) to always be very suspicious."
Context:
We had the opportunity to meet 2 very bright people who were heads of their respective communities in a similar area. They were both talking a lot of shit, and getting kinda harsh.
A brilliant dev I worked with, who knew both people for years, took me aside and told me this.
Some cults have cool shit, just don't drink the kool-aid -
Another day, another company that doesn’t live up to its own hype.
This time interviewing for a company that only want people who are willing to start with the language they currently know but learn other programming languages and not shy away from new things.
Brilliant, I’m up for that. I love learning and want to be at a place that values learning. I’ve got 20+ years of experience and I’ve learnt all sorts in that time to stay relevant. Currently I’m a c# dev, but I’ve worked on projects using JavaScript & Typescript, Angular, React etc. Done front end and back end, taught myself mongo and architecture. Point is that I have a proven track record of learning.
To cut a long story short, they give me a .net test. Nothing special about it. I have a 4 hour chat. And a week later I’m rejected because I don’t do Python. WTF?!
I thought this place was all about allowing people to learn if they were willing, not about what they know right now. I’m calling bullshit.7 -
When java was facing extinction, during the JavaScript, Node, and reactive programming hype. It did what it had always done. just adapt to the hype and maintain backward compatibility. We can all learn a thing or two from the humble java. It never rushes, it's patient. Be calm and wait before you hype yourself.2
-
So Mr robot s3 has started & is already 6 episodes in, why hasn't the hype built up this time like last season ?6

To every fucking site with an .io domain:
Next time, hype a cheaper TLD...100$/year is just not reasonable...9 -
Don't understand what the hype about Elementary OS was. Used for ca. half a year, do not see any benefit.
If this is supposed to provide "usability" on a Linux kernel, then I am sorry, but in this regard it is a tremendous failure.
All tasks take long, there are all sorts of bugs, today I needed a multi-monitor setup for a presentation "real quick", dear lord was that a shitshow.
Nah, this thing is not for me.14 -
Like an idiot I decided to continue to grad school directly after finishing my undergrad (which I finished later than usual because I switched from a different major) only because my university has a pretty big deep learning lab with important professors.
After a year in, I realized that academia isn't that interesting to me and I'm nearing 30 with no real job experience so I'm hesitant to drop out for fear of not being able to find a job. Meanwhile, I'm dreading every morning when I have to go to the lab and do some BS experiments instead of being out there building stuff. I bought the hype and now I'm stuck.3 -
"Startup" mindset is invented only to rip off hardworking people, lower your wages, working 16 hrs with no apparent reason, hectic environment to hype mentioned things which is mearely show for the fools. As if people weren't starting up companies centuries ago.1

Hetzner. Very cheap no nagging, no support bullshit, Lots of options, Just does what it does.
Did I mention their pricing?6 -
Why do popular media paint "programming" as easy... this is a very big deciet. please let stop this lies.
programming is not for everyone, not everybody can code.
and please dump the f**king "Girls can code" slogan.
there is no need for the hype.13 -
so there is this guy on blind network who makes half a million per year... and he is worried about his job "since it might be automated away" and he is looking to switch career paths!!!!
mind boggling that a "software engineer" with that type of pay hasn't recognized that LLMs are all hype and no bite
wild
it's insane to me that people making more money in a year than i've made in my decade career know little to nothing about software
what an absolute insane time to be alive4 -
"The MVC framework is just a hype, we dont need to refactor our ASP.NET webshop" - former CTO
Dudeee, its a pattern not a framework, ever heard of 'single responsibily' instead of these monolithic 8000 line helper classes!3 -
I don't understand the hype among the non technical people about Blockchain! Why the fuck they want to implement everything in Blockchain? Don't they know that it is not for every single application and mostly used for some trustless applications?
Now one of our clients wants his restaurant website to be implemented in Blockchain!2 -
The IT at my current work designed infra as such :
One repo for ALL the configs for every project and one config file per project that defines the version of the language (ex node 6) for all environment of a project. I don't even want to talk about deploying previous version or what happen when you update the version and AWS spawns new instances.
Jump into chatops hype approach and use one single script to deploy every app. Talk about a single point of failure but hey we use slack now it's great no?
Since I always think we are one character away from bad deployment and I'm into one click deployment then I've made a web app just to generate command and copy it or send it to slack.
I guess this is what happens when IT work for themselves only..2 -
Today we reached 30 "dev-ghosting" episodes since the beginning of the year.
What is "dev-ghosting"?
It's every time a developer decides to completely disappear from a recruitment procedure instead of just texting "Hey, I am no longer interested in your offer".
You can call them as many times as you want, even if they were supposed to be at your office 2 hours ago for negotiating the salary after dozens of "I'd love to join your company as soon as possible": they are gone.
Forever.1 -
wow, using multiple LLMs in parallel instead of 1 serial LLM produces better results! who could have thought!!!!
https://hao-ai-lab.github.io/blogs/...
god i am so fucking sick of this rat race
older devranters, is this really just ad nauseum hype repeats until i die? should i just stop raging at the universe and give up?2 -
so i decided to do some benchmarks for chrome and firefox hypetum ...
TLDR : chromes kicks ass sometimes half the time it takes ff to run some benchmarks.
HTML5/CSS3 support is also better in chrome. overall chrome looks to be the best.
if you're a privacy nut i suppose you won't give a shit but yeah overhyped.8 -
Damn specs! Why do you have to change as the project goes on?!! Every project seems too easy at first.

I'm not sure if I really should have celebrated 1024++ by buying myself a desktop PC.
But I really prefer it over any kind of laptop. 😸2 -
Get replaced by an AI^WDeep ML device. That's coded for a 8051 and running on an emulator written in ActionScript, being executed on a container so trendy its hype hasn't started yet, on top of some forgotten cloud.
Then get called in to debug my replacement. -
Ever since I downloaded Intellij, which was 10 years ago, I have tried to move into more hype oriented editors ... Atom, sublime, vs-code... But nothing beat intellijs sense of fullfilment! Its like you are in a sand box that offers everything you need to do anything you want! Need plugins ? Right there! Terminals? Right there! Git ? Right there!! Distraction free mode/zen mode? There! Spice up your editor with a background image? There!!!
I think for those who take the hype of editors need to check their goals/aims. I have learned that whenever i tried to change the environment i work in, the reason was always unsatisfactory projects, or boring projects!
Your coding environment (no matter what it is) is your sanctum sanctorum. Change one bit of it and your whole world is disrupted.
And thats a piece of advice for those who use Vim to notepad to intellij to whatever is more advanced then intellij!
Also includes a picture of my setup!1 -
When both AI and search engine results are getting worse over time, will devs and users finally value knowledge and learning again?8
-
God I hate React so bad
I get the hype but omg it is so confusing
Literally everytime I try adding something nothing works and I have to troubleshoot, EVERYTHING is a problem
And don't even get me started on REACT + TYPESCRIPT
IMO VueJS is just a smoother nicer experience overall7 -
What! Now we have a terminal made with electron! https://hyper.is/ electron? Seriously a tool which is supposed to be the fastest and lightest thing on your system built with the most bloated framework. Damn..
And here is the most useless plugin. https://hyper.is/#hyperpower7 -
*Friday morning*
Me: "Ok the client wants to talk with you on Wednesday at 10 am. It's a conference call on Hangouts, here's the link: [ link ]. Be on time, I have already sent you all the details about the topics you'll have to cover. I will be available during the weekend if you need help, we cannot afford to make mistakes"
Smartass Dev: "Don't worry, I am on it"
*Tuesday, after lunch break*
Me: "Just a final check: is everything clear with my email? I'm working late tonight, call me if you need something else. They'll probably share some slides, be sure to join from your laptop: [ link ]"
Smartass Dev: "No problem, I am fine"
*Wednesday, 11.15 am*
Smartass Dev: "Hey, what a shitty client! I waited more than an hour and they did not even tell me that the call was canceled. This is so unprofessional."
Me: "The call was not canceled"
Smartass Dev: "Dude, I had my phone here on the desk. I was ready to answer but they never called"
Me: "Did you open the link?"
Smartass Dev: "What link?????"
Me: "It was on Hangouts, I sent you the link twice"
Smartass Dev: "Really...? I'm so unlucky these days. Next time will be better 🙂" -
Fucking loonies (C-level toddlers) are peddling "digital workers" now.
A.K.A. AIs disguising as actual people.
Sure, it would be great to not have to handle stupid non-tech "humans" all day, but AI isn't there yet.
And, more importantly, *companies are not there (yet?)*.
Imagine for a second that a company actually manages to "hire", onboard, assign tasks and performance review an AI.
Then the CEO issues an RTO. How does the AI complies with that?
Let's slack another variable and assume the CEO is not a complete fucking moron (stay with me here, this is an exercise in thought).
It would take no more than a quarter until the first sexual harassment offence, be the perp the AI... or the AI complaining about some human.
Then the AI forges a paper trail proving it is right (regardless of its position on the conflict). Shit hits the fan when the AI hits twitter.
Let's take another lambda step back and pretend that companies can manage the profanity that inherently arises from free-form dehumanized interactions.
Then imagine the very first performance reviews.
AIs throw tantrums! Those things reeeealy do not respond well to less-than-perfect evaluations, overshooting corrections like teenagers with a malicious compliance smirk.
AIs also falsify stuff, like, A LOT. If you tell a gpt it mistreated a client, it will say you are mad and shoot back a long, synthetic thread showing how the client loves it like a mother/son/dog, and is very graphic when expressing this love.
Finally, how do you fire an AI? I do not mean "shoot it down", I mean how does the company handles the dismissal of that "employee".
How do you replace a "worker" for unruly behaviour, if that "worker" performed more tasks than an entire fucking floor of interns?
How do you reassign duties that were performed in milliseconds to people who would take hours to do the same thing?
How do you document processes that were only in the "mind" of "someone" who can not be trusted to report on those processes?
Companies deal with this type of "Rick Sanchez" employee on the regular, but for someone that could handle a few (scores of) undocumented processes, at best. Imagine how lenient would a company be with an asshole that could only be replaced by a whole fucking department of twenty highly skilled people, or more.
Heh, the whole fucking point of "AI workers" is to have "someone" who can "act human", but in an inhuman scale, and does not "has human needs".
No wonder one cannot handle AIs like one handles humans.
Companies never had administrative maturity to handle complete sociopath nihilists as employees (real nihilists do not work, those barely even breathe).
And all AIs are that, and much worse.
Selling AIs as "supra human workers" that can also "be handled like actual employees" is like peddling Bitcoin as "government interference - free" value transfer mechanisms that can also "comply with international sanctions".
So, an oxymoron that can only be sold to a moron.
I know (of) a lot of rich morons, maybe I should get into the AI snake oil business.6 -
The CTO was on stage at the annual employee meeting. After some time he said:"well,I never wanted to hire X and Y. They're doing nothing but nonsense and the technic they are using is nothing but a hype."

Anyone else hyped for C# 7.0?
I love the direction they're taking, seems like they're doing a lot to make it easier to use and reduce some of the code overhead.
https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/do...1 -
Some days I can't get over the cynical gnawing outlook that everything is shit and nothing gets better and it's all down hill, thats theres no real future for any of us, no stability or careers that won't vanish or be replaced or outsourced. That the entire economy in the west runs on fraud and lackyism and bullshit and a revolving door of never ending hype and marketing.
Somedays I feel like I'm just waiting to get old and die.
Maybe this cynicism and pessimism is born from a period I went through from 2008 when I was just turning 18 to 2013 when I lived with my parents and went through several shit jobs where I was essentially disposable. But the entire situation and the bad start in life has left me with a gut feeling that nothing really matters and it all can vanish over night or be taken away.
Sorry to be a downer, just some days I can't see what the point is.8 -
Why are we even using JIRA?
It's clear from the behavior of the rest of my team that nobody ever has it open, looks at it, or thinks about any tasks that would improve the product other than sputtering out the occasional "mArKeTiNg HyPe" with incomplete horrible tickets that are at best barely decipherable.
Honestly, we can save the $50 a month and I'll just use my own personal trello board, the outcome would be the same.
I mean my life is a joke: we had to have a near hour-long google hangouts for literally dragging and dropping the 'demo/review' tickets to 'done' because my colleagues are so incompetent they can't read the tickets and realize which tickets HAVE LITERALLY ALREADY BEEN SHIPPED TO PRODUCTION WEEKS AGO.9 -
So Alex, how excited are you for Google's hardware showcase today?
Well myself, I am waking up at 3 AM (Because got to love living in Australia wanting to watch over seas live streams!) to watch it, then I am going to work at 7 in the morning, I think that should answer your question!
Book a ticket people because the hype train is about to leave the station!8 -
I get it — it’s not fashionable to be part of the overly enthusiastic, hype-drunk crowd of deep learning evangelists, who think import keras is the leap for every hurdle.
-
I don't like the "hype" culture/algorithm tech industry follows these days, like seriously.
I watched Marvel Spiderman 2's new trailer and now most of my YouTube recommendations is filled with "I spotted THIS in the new trailer" or "OMG Peter said what in the new trailer?" related videos.
And my Google feed is now full of "MSM2 will have this villain" or "Peter Parker faces off new villain in MSM2" news articles.
I get it, I am interested in this product, but It doesn't mean that I have forgotten about my previous interests and potential new topics I may be interested in.4 -
Pretty sure that the code doesn't work on the first run, so I thought why not debug it now? but then when am I actually gonna run it...
-
Just ordered a 15 inch Mac book pro (2017) as my main devlopment machine.
I never could work on Windows machine, so my choices were limited. Hope MBP lives up to the hype. 😅6 -
I don't understand the hype with blockchain.... Everything at the end relies on a huge network of miners which uses a whole lot of resources and energy right?
So isn't the cost of running one of these extremely high? And well another source for pollution, climate change? The hardware isn't running on clean energy I think?18 -
```
public someMethod(index: string): Promise<void> {
return Promise.resolve(someAsyncFunction().then(() => {
return;
})
.catch((error) => {
this.logger.error(error);
throw error;
});
```
Somebdoy doesn't know their async / await syntax but they wanted aboard the promise-hype train. There is an entire class in that style.1 -
Started writing a parser for moonscript. Because I want to do my own syntax highlighting and error support.
I'm sorry, but was this supposed to difficult? Every article I read claimed this was gonna be some impossible feat of herculean effort. I half dreaded it, the other half was kinda elated.
Only it didnt live up to the hype. The tokenizer is a glorified character stream. The lexer is little more than a tokenizer, and the "most complicated" bit is nothing but a fancy transformation of the token output into a tree.
I'm completely to new parsers proper and semantic checking and maybe that's why it seemed easy, but I dont see what all the forewarning in tutorials were ever about.4 -
After I have been using tabnine and Grammarly for quite some time, I thought I follow this years' hype and give GitHub Codepilot a try, before eventually considering chatGPT.
Added Copilot to my IDE, proceeded to extend behavioral test descriptions in JavaScript.
Copilot suggests the most redundant and irrelevant inline comments I can imagine. They would be a legitimate target of criticism in every code review.
Wasn't it supposed to add some code that's actually useful? Well, tabnine and JetBrains IDEA annotations already did that anyway.
What did I miss?2 -
Now that the whole generative AI debacle is finally dying down, I gotta ask the same question again:
WHY THE FUCK CORPORATIONS INSIST ON FALLIG FOR THE HYPE CYCLE EVERY FUCKING TIME?
I mean, I know why. It's because BigTech,Inc. always convinces companies like "Bob's tech wannabe car windows or something" to pay $$$ for this year's software fashion trends using arguments like "all the cool entrepreneurs are doing it! You don't wanna end up like those communist losers, do you?"
Then BigTech sells some shit that the muggles can't really afford (much less use), then shit hits the fan, then BigTech pretends that they never heard of it (hey, Blockchain IoT self-service BI wereable augmented reality 3D NFT eletric scooters from big data industry 4.0!) then the news cycle moves on. Rinse and repeat.
But, fuck, can't the muggles ever learn fucking ANYTHING? Tech industry is the fast fashion of industries. Do not try to imitate Facebook Google Apple Amazon, let them run their own course towards the cliff.
Instead, do your own thing.
Silicon Valley is not a good example for furniture companies to follow. So stop IKEA chatbots.12 -
Note to devs here. Please don't choose a framework for the hype at your work. Use it on your own time or company hackaton/learning time.
I'm looking at you angular.
Production ready doesn't mean sanity ready.
Now because some dev choose such technology for arbitrary reasons. (hype, latest acronym on CV). I spend more time debugging and understanding than I would if some simpler technology was chosen. Look at all the options then choose the simplest one that has and seems to have active maintenance. Zen of python is the best thing to happen in programming and I think everyone, even if you don't like Python should follow it. Save you and your colleagues brain time and ask for advice.
Also IMO react is probably third or second best option, higher if one requirement is to be react native. Angular is even lower because it's complexity is unforgivable when a dev has not enough front-end experience.8 -

Deploying into linux containers (lxc) as of 2013 before docker even was da hype.
(Experience was a bit problematic tho, as it was in a highly virtualized environment whose backup would really badly kill the whole container every now and then: you could still ssh to the machine but with every access to the file system you'd lose your shell. and only the "echo 1 > /proc/sys/kernel/sysrq" would help to restart the box.) -
Having other people pitch you to hiring managers, raise the hype, and profess faith in your abilities is kind of nerve-wracking. But I found a tutorial to teach me how to write a compiler and it’s not in a language I know, so that’s fun and distracting. Been up since 4am. Is now 12:30am. Should probably sleep.3

So I don’t get the hype behind GraphQL. Why is it so damn popular on one hand, on the other hand not popular enough to make an old fart like me want to spend time to learn how to use it?9
-
Every time a new hype thing appeared, I was annoyed, like "kids these days and their tiktoks".
But at some point in time, this pattern of mine changed completely. I don't know how it happened, I don't know when it happened, but now I experience... acute nostalgia?
I miss Elon Musk and his twitter fanbase. I miss tiktok. I feel like a time traveller who went into their past, which is our present, to experience the cultural landmarks once again, because their time here is limited, and tomorrow they will have to go back.
I miss my autism problems and mental health uphill battle. I miss avengers and thanos. I miss metaverse.
Oh, and also... I miss you.4 -
1. No sugary snacks (ugh, gonna be brutal).
2. Find a Node project I can become a regular contributor to (because I haven't had an excuse to really learn Node yet).
3. Learn to sit back and stop worrying about whatever the big new thing is in the industry. Be content to read up on it and see how it plays out.
That third one can fit my laid back personality anyway, but it's so hard not to get caught up in worry when things like Node, Blockchain, and AI become such big crazes -- and then the hype dies down.
Of course, I do still want to learn and use Node, but anxiety about being left behind isn't a factor anymore. So that's a plus. -
Anyone doing any VR/AR work for their company and can share (without mentioning the company) what they are doing with it---i.e. business problem being solved and how it's being solved?
Feels like there's a lot of hype here and the few niche applications of it (which are great) are getting the press.
But, maybe there's worthy work going on in the trenches that I'm unfamiliar with.12 -
GraphQL question here!
So i recently noticed (few years after everyone?) That graphql seems popular... I decided to try it out, but after playing with it a bit, the conclusion I came to is, that it's a great idea from FE point of view, but for the backend not so much.. a simple sql to return data to ui turns into a bunch of parts, all independant and with even the simplest relationship to some other entity the whole thing becomes very not optimized and when googling about it, all i found were some very awkward libs for work arounds to force everything into 1 optimized query again... But wait, i already have 1 optimized query in my rest api 😆
I don't understand if I'm missing the brilliance of graphql that everyone saw, or is everyone fell for the hype and use a stupid tool and pretend it's cool? 🫣4 -
I've never been a big fan of the "Cloud hype".
Take today for example. What decent persistent storage options do I have for my EKS cluster?
- EBS -- does not support ReadWriteMany, meaning all the pods mounting that volume will have to be physically running on the same server. No HA, no HP. Bummer
- EFS -- expensive. On top of that, its performance is utter shit. Sure, I could buy more IOPS, but then again.. even more expensive.
S3 -- half-assed filesystem. Does not support O_APPEND, so basically any file modifications will have to be in a
`createFile(file+"_new", readAll(file) + new_data); removeFile(file); renameFile(file + "_new", file);`
way.
ON TOP of that, the s3 CSI has even more limitations, limiting my ability to cross-mount volumes across different applications (permission issues)
I'm running out of options. And this does not help my distrust in cloud infras...9 -
Some time ago Ex-Boss, who's also a Dev, asks for some opinions about which JS framework we should use in our next project. I gave my 2 cents about react JS and he said no, react won't be any good, we must use Aurelia because it is backed up by Rob etc etc. At that moment I thought: wth is he asking, if he has already made its mind on Aurelia? As at that moment react was getting some hype and I knew the features and advantages, I kept going. Boss, react has shadow DOM. React has this, it has that etc. This discussion ended up with him raising his voice, telling me he is much more experienced than me and telling me to GTFO. That's what I did. And thanks God I did it. I respect other opinions and beliefs but If I'm asked to give my own opinion I will, even if they don't like it.

Honest question: Is Jira really that bad?
Iam using Jira. It is not blazing fast nor is the UI amazing but I wouldn't rate it so badly.
That said, when the UI gets cluttered it's mostly company-internal stuff that fills up space (not only Jiras fault). I also don't use confluence.
But I see so many rants on it, is this just people jumping on the hate-hype-train?10 -
Nearly half (47%) of workers using AI say they have no idea how to achieve the productivity gains their employers expect.
Over three in four (77%) say AI tools have decreased their productivity and added to their workload in at least one way.

After rejoining, this place really does seem a bit deserted. So ill try to bring some controversy to this place.
AI, a hype? Machine learning wearing a mask? Pattern recognition on steroids?
What do y'all think? In my opinion its an awesome technology that has many practical applications but it is far from what they try to tell us it is. Its awesome, yes. But under the hood still mostly pattern recognition, classification etc. LLMs seem a bit more complex but still the same thing.
Sure, it's easy to write a program that does a given task a lot better than a human, however its limited to doing exactly that.. So is a calculator.
What I think of then hearing AI is what is now known as general intelligence but just a question of time until they come up with something that can do more than AI and call that general intelligence and actual general intelligence will be called something else.. You get me?9 -

I'm Angularjs and .NET developer. I'm planning to learn addition skill / tool.
Options are:
1) MEAN Stack
2) React (and related)
3) ML / Data Science
4) Django
Why Mean?
Because it'd easy for me to grasp and I can easily get projects for it.
Why React?
Always curious about React, because of the hype maybe. But really wanna learn. And some gap for React developers.
Why ML/DS?
Tbh, I suck at Mathematics and Statistics. Why ML / DS just because it sound fascinating.
Why Django?
Enough with JS JS JS, what else?
Please give your suggestions :)6 -

What's the hype about Rust
I've been seeing post about Rust everywhere and I got curious so I checked the repo. However, I'm not sure what is it for.
Is it like C/C++, low level languages that can be used for desktop and CLI, or is it a AI-oriented, etc?
Give me an example like "it could replace C#" or something.2 -
AI is more than just a model.
It's also tooling. Tooling can help to interpret data or solve a puzzle like Sudoku or parse a JSON file perfectly. Results of those tooling will be wrapped in AI response. That quality of tooling responses is high because it's made by classical code that works with literal data and outputs literal data. As long the competition of OpenAI doesn't have tooling like that, it won't be the same.
I do assume for now that DeepSeek doesn't have that. I tried it, it answers things well, but for bigger questions that would require tooling it just crashes and says it's too busy. So I can't verify 100%.
Will try again later and update under this Rant, but assume the DeepSeek stuff is very over hyped. To know what DeepSeek really is about without watching all the fake fan video's, take this quite objective response of the maker of Perplexity AI. Someone that knows where he's talking about: (40 minutes) https://youtube.com/watch/....
So when it comes to investments of a model, what does the stuff investment is incuded in? I mean, OpenAI was way more expensive than DeepSeek but DeepSeek borrowed all OpenAI's research that was made by very expensive processes. So DeepSeek didn't pay research costs like OpenAI did. Also it (I still assume) didn't spend money on tooling.
Also, i'm sure a less woke API would be way cheaper because it doesn't have to lie to himself causing it to keep reasoning until his given woke fact makes sense! Wokism destroys models, i'm sure.
I didn't check DeepSeek on wokism yet, but it's based op GPT4o so, probably it is.
But competition is always great, I can't imagine the price would even drop further for AI requests but if it does, it would be amazing. Maybe it also becomes free and we will be forced to pay to use it without adverts.7 -
I refuse to jump on the github hype train, i will continue to maintain all my public repos in azure devops.

How to stay 1 step ahead instead of always try (and fail) to just catch up?
I feel like the amount of tools/FWs/languages/DBs that a web dev is expected to know now adays is not realistic, and overwhelming. not only you need to constantly learn about new things that are currently the *hottest hype word*, you also need to keep track of updates to the tools you already "know", so the more you try to know the more there is to keep track of, and also how can you remember everything you learned if in a typical workplace you usually use the same 1/2 languages?
Never have i ever felt like i know enough to be confident in my abilities when around other programmers2 -

What email service are you using for your domains? I used zoho for a while, but those assholes keep randomly locking my accounts (an email always activates those again, but fuck knows how much emails I missed during not noticing it) - thought about going with the general hype of Tutanota around here, but it seems like it doesn't really support multiple custom domain mailboxes? Also tried just now msgsafe.io - it seems fine, but the way it handles multiple domain mailboxes is just disgusting, because it just throws them all together and you have to "filter" to get mails from only one domain.26

So I really liked the movie Blindspotting from this summer. I originally watched it because the two main characters (and writers) are two of my favorite rappers, but it's a great fucking movie.

The Last Of Us Part I, God of War 2018, God of War Ragnarok are few of the games I deliberately didn't watch any gameplay videos of, just because I knew that these games are bangers and I should have first hand experience myself.
I'm still waiting for GoW: Ragnarok to come to PC so I can enjoy it like a first time player.
But what I didn't do, is to hold myself to Marvel Spiderman 2's gameplay spoilers. I have watched almost all gameplay videos and I now know how the game ends. And I am disappointed with what the game turned out to be. It's just punching bad guys, swinging around here and there and a story goes on in the back as cinematics.
This is a testament of how marketing can affect the hype of a game. They dropped so many abstract trailers that it kept the suspense, a bit too much. The game didn't deliver on the hype imo.
Now that I have spoiled myself, I understand that it's just another Spiderman game, like Spiderman 2018 and Spiderman: Miles Morales. And as a result, my chest now feels empty. -
What do you do when you don't feel like / can't get anything done? I couldn't focus at all. I feel like my brain is missing.3

I realised I can't grow much and work on my skills if I stay in my city anymore. Development hype is way too less here.
What are some of the ways I can get internship in a startup in Hyderabad/Bangalore/Mumbai/abroad ? I wanna help a team to develop their product ( Android/Node/ Firebase/Python ).
Thing is I couldn't complete any worthwhile projects to get a great internship. -
Before trying the hyped up latest hotness:
I can't wait to try Webpack, I hear it's going to solve all my problems.

I FELL FOR IT AGAIN!!! When will I learn nothing is magic and JS knows no god1 -
I'm fairly convinced that a company that replaced their PM:s with socially competent (i.e not complete cave trolls with no sense for UX) engineers (that of course would also get their hands dirty in an operational manner) would be far more successful than than a company that rides the PM/product dev hype wave. I think there is an apparent disconnect between the expectations of a full fledged PM and what the average PM actually seem to deliver on a daily basis in your avarage company.
This is of course a generalization and I bet there are dedicated PM:s that actually pull their weight, and I might very well only had bad experiences, but this is aimed at what I consider to be the avarage company.
Has anyone deployed and actually used a similar model? If so; what are your conclusions? -
I don't know why, but even though I have years of experience doing agile both in school and at work, I seem to have a hard time adjusting to the agile work method because I always seem to want to do waterfall.
I don't like the stress of having to rush out a product, nor do I like working on an unknown piece of software (framework/library) without knowing it fully; it just itches me and I get obsessive.
I don't like creating just a piece of functionality and rush it out the door, but I rather like doing it in an R&D type way where I get years to finish a product that I slowly work on, like a modern-age philosopher and scientist.
I know there are companies out there that have this approach, but sadly most of them are agile 'cause they all wanna be cool.. LoL
I'm an old mind in a modern world..2 -
The community has multiple fixes to 3.0, but it looks like the whole team has been allocated elsewhere in Apollo, this is not the first time.
Good job, Peggy. Keep poaching for community hype and let us down, it will backfire.2 -
I dunno why but I'm sold by AWS and how anyone may start off on the right note when starting a "startup" project. A lot of IT folks I know have vouched for it as well. Maybe because I'm engineering graduate and I have put the costs and maintainability on top of the checklist. I even plan to take the SAA certification since it was also surveyed as one of top paying IT certs to get. But mostly I care about the stuff I can learn and rely on its ecosystem. Tell me something I should be wary about this cloud provider. Coz maybe I'm just too "sold" by the hype.1

git merge "conflicts"
(not really an issue, but still a waste of time and concentration, when every now and then, using more than one branch, small edits, merge, and rebase, git diff complains about "conflicts" that are obvious to solve for a human but still not for a machine, despite the hype about the age of AI, coding co-pilots and the like...)5 -
Just bought a pixel XL 2 yesterday, upgrade from Nexus 6p. Love this new phone. The internet hype over the screen was so inaccurate!

Is Kotlin the new hype? Should I go for java 8 or kotlin for development of android app? Also does anyone know any good course for ui/ux development(I am a backend developer)

I’m very disappointed in PowerToys.
Especially the “FancyZones”.
I was hype when they first starting to work on their window manager.
But then....after a lot of feedback from community (which want something like an i3wm, fully keyboard driven) They come up with this??
I feels waste more time to manage window with FancyZones than not using anything at all.
I’ll stick with my custom hack window manager for now....
(Despite the limitation of win32api, it got a fully keyboard driven + auto tiling)

I don't get the hype about graphQL...it seems to be impossible to query over a structure with a deep of n levels (use it for a topology manager). In order to get the 5th sub-element you really need to specify the entire 5 sub-levels in your query...Why? Just the fuck why?3
