I work as a software engineer in research. We develop open source projects.
So in a place like that, besides your loaded github a BSc/BEng is the least you are expected to have to be considered as a junior.
Do I need the knowledge from my degree? Fuck yes. That abstract shit and maths helped me solve pretty fucked up problems several times.

Studywise, right now, I'm finishing my MSc thesis and will be starting a PhD later this year.
So no regrets, no complaints. Degree worth it for me.

Another vacancy, another instance, I'm going to apply at employers site, (they sell some sort of CRM crapshit) forms not working, bc not fucking connected to anything. Just a fucking HTML and JS popup notification for submission laying around with its legs wide spread. Like its copied from w3schools or something.
Looked more on the site it is fucked from all sides like it's made by a school kid.

So I fired an email to the HR, something like "I went to apply but your forms are not working, I found the issue, it's that. Also I found some glory holes in your site, hope your I.T. finds them too. Anyways here is my CV, have a nice day"

So here I am, in 2018, reading an article about AI from a book written in 1976. Still legit.

If anyone's interested, the book is the first edition of Encyclopedia of Computer science by Anthony Ralston.

I was super excited when sirca 2009, I first made my own video streaming website.
It even had a live chat. I was streaming movies from an academic cloud infrastructure intended for research with an account I made using fake credentials.

They found out and I got banned, of course. Also they got my real ID and sent me a super angry letter, but no police was involved.

Ten years later I'm MSc in CI with access to CERN's grid network, but I cannot use any resources on their infrastructure. :P
