As long as I got A's my parents let me do/study whatever and however i felt like, i feel like thats the best system, let your results speak for themselves.
-
@runfrodorun what about the loud sounds of the guitar from the amplifier you have ?
-
@runfrodorun yeah, ik how that feels, on the front sounds like they are guiding you in a positive path, on the back its actually what they want to see themselves get accomplished of.
But distance does help in shaping an individual in a lot of dimensions, just waiting for my graduation from engg and then off we go to 200 feet deep sea diving (mom doesn't allow) -
This feels way to real for me....
Someone in my family will come to me mad then I will try to reason with them then they will start screaming at me for being mad at them... Like it's my fucking fault....
Anyways.. I feel your pain -
PreyK22237yMy mother literally throw my laptop out on the window when i started to learn coding. She did everything to stop me because computers are evil😂
-
Get this, mother then complained to my father that I argued with her :S
Not at all lying, right? For some reason, they lie to me on certain things all the time and it's alright for them to.
It's only wrong when I try it for minimizing the conflicts... And when I actually want to be left the hell alone and they just won't, I'm being unreasonable to them... Sorry that I'm generally a fucking lone wolf and that most people just aren't able to understand me even slightly.
Also, who in their right fucking minds makes their child move their PC from their room to the goddamn hall? It's in a position where anyone in basically the whole room sees exactly what I'm doing and when I say I need some fucking space, mother acts like it's an entitled brat's thing to say... Dude, I'm not even into the stuff you wouldn't want people to see(except games and they hate them to death). I just want to be left alone for a fucking change.
Is that too much to fucking ask for? -
I am taking a sleeping pill the second day in a row and I'm not able to sleep well even with it. How's that for me being in any way alright?
-
PreyK22237yJust hang in there for a few more years, they will be very sorry when you make your dev carrier, get your own place and not talk to them anymore. My mother calls me monthly to forgive her, and i can just tell her to fuck off. If its really that bad find some friends where you can stay over for a few days, or just remind them that they are just people too. Parents sometes forget that they are not some fucking immortal gods just because they are your parents
-
@divil Not only is the position the worst I could have gotten, it's also the noisiest part of the house all day -_-
Totally wish I could do something defiant, but I cannot... Not without consequences that will result in even worse state of being for me. -
Pointer32377ySometimes I look back and see that my life's not that bad after all... but if there's something that I really despise, is the feeling of being unable to help someone.
Your situation, I can't say I understand, that'll be a lie, but I try to and like everyone here, all we can do is cheer you up and be "random whimsical strangers" that will read your rant, your anger, so you can let it all go and feel less stressed (even though it's only a liiiitle bit).
I'd say that instead of hating being in the noisiest place, try to find ways to "avoid" the noise. I have to deal with that at work, we're in an open office and sometimes I can't bear the noises, taps, speaks of my coworkers, so I just put my earphones and lose myself.
Again, I feel bad that I can't help you enough. But as long as nobody break their fingers, we will encourage you and cheer you up (again).
Don't be strong, you already are, just hold on and keep typing 😀 -
Root797677yThere's a reason my parents aren't a part of my life.
Actually there's thousands of reasons, many like the one you mentioned. Many others involving yelling and pain and bruises and crying.
The moral of my story (and @runfrodorun's): if things get too bad, leave. You don't need toxic people in your life. If they're toxic and related by blood, that can keep dragging you back in and continually making everything worse. All the more important to get away and/or put a firm end to their behavior. -
@Pointer Objection. You cannot avoid noise in the hall where most of the family spends their time.
Bonus annoyance: guests also get their reception in that room.
And why the hell could I not sleep even with a fucking sleeping pill my psychiatrist prescribed? -
Pointer32377y@BlueNutterfly Wellllllllll... I stand defeated, but I won't surrender!
I know you'll find a way 😀 -
@BlueNutterfly Sit down with them, explain it in a super calm way that you are becomming a developer, that this is the job you aim for and that it is a matter of practice, learning and socializing with other developer. Try to explain them what stackoverflow, github and learning is for a developer and why we piggybag knowledge from videos or devrant.
Maybe show them how people here have no contact to their parents anymore and how much their actions are affecting your later life -
@BlueNutterfly read through your older rants. I would leave that place, look for a internship/job and a place to stay.
Morons stay morons, even if they are your parents. -
@BlueNutterfly Not giving you any advice, because I really don't know how that situation is. I'm sorry for you having to live through that.
Just this: Be careful with the advice given here by people who definitely mean well and can be helpful. But in the end none of them knows your situation in depth and the hard task of deciding what to do stays with you.
I guess it would be hard to lose the relationship with your parents if it isn't hopeless (and even then), but reducing it might be a very good thing. Relations to parents often change to the better when there is more distance (e. g. after moving out), however I don't know what you had to give up on order for that to happen.
I hope that you'll find a way that's healthy for you! -
aaxa22217ySounds like I've been quite lucky with my parents. As long as I didn't get bad grades and just worked towards something that held a future, they didn't really care what I spent my time on
-
DjSall15617yMy parents used to be like this. Than they realized that their bullshit isn't affecting me and they just gave up.
When they took my computer away because "I didn't study enough" I just handed in my exam papers empty. They changed their mind really quickly. -
@DjSall You know... My grades fell really badly, yet they still cannot connect the dots that MAYBE their behaviour affects my studying. They also threaten to take the PC away at every bloody turn.
-
DjSall15617y@BlueNutterfly yeah, my method doesn't work in uni. Only in hs. I'd try moving out if I was you.
-
@DjSall I wish I could fucking do something to enable me to move out. Sadly I can't seem to find a thing.
-
DjSall15617y@BlueNutterfly in Hungary we have a thing called "dual education" where you can apply to partnered companies(with the uni) and you get a monthly salary while studying at the uni. While studying you go to work some months of the year.
Don't you just love it when people make a whole freaking scene about you not studying when you fucking are and then make a scene about your obviously angered tone of voice when answering that you are?
Great times with family. /s
