b3b340657yThat sounds interesting. I often failed to install arch but never because of problems with the kernel🤔
Currently I'm trying to install parabola (derivative of arch) but tty freezes after boot :( there's so much stuff you can fuck up -
Gophyr19137yDid you remember to install the bootloader? Every time I've installed an Arch VM to play with, I've forgotten the bootloader.
-
@Gophyr it fails to load the kernel from the bootloader. I did forget the bootloader on try 4 though.
-
@b3b3 I'm reinstalling it again now. It's a Thinkpad T61 with old hardware, so I'm wondering if I was using too new of a kernel or something. We'll see how this installation goes
-
@b3b3 should I just pacstrap with base and base-devel or should I include another group?
-
b3b340657y@iam13islucky I actually only install base and get the base-devel afterwards even after post installation (DM + wm and stuff) because it takes ages to download and if I fuck something up during installation its just wasted waiting time imo. Also I don't think it has something to do with your kernel problem 🤔
-
@b3b3 okay. Finished the pacstrap, did my fstab and such. During grug-mkconfig I get this warning:
WARNING: Failed to connect to lvmetad. Falling back to device scanning.
That isn't anything had, right? -

@b3b3 I'm still kinda new to this, so I don't know. What would tell me if I am using it
-
b3b340657y@iam13islucky well you'd probably know it when you use it. https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic... your warning seems to be related to lvm but its only a warning not an error and thus should not be the reason for your problem. I honestly can't help you with this since I never had this problem :/ wish I could help tho

@b3b3 I think I forgot to install the Intel ucode package last time, it rebooted successfully this time
-
b3b340657y@iam13islucky there's a package for Intel ucode? I've got an Intel too but never had to install a package for it 😵 I'm so confused right now
-
@b3b3 from the official guide:
"If you have an Intel CPU, install the intel-ucode package in addition, and enable microcode updates." -
@b3b3 so far, yes. Currently getting ready to add some gui stuff. I can't decide on a DE though lol. It just needs to be lightweight cause I only have 2gb of ram and shitty integrated graphics.
-
@ParkCity I got it. Looks ugly a shit by default, but it was only 50 bucks so I'm not expecting pretty.
-
@b3b3 eh, I thought about it but I'm just to lazy. It's only till next week that I really need it, so I opted for easy
-
PacRat39567y@iam13islucky i'd just settle,in and get xfce looking pretty and work with that for a while. do you have an AUR helper, or do you manually download packages from the AUR and install them with makepkg
-
PacRat39567y@iam13islucky a nice start. i would get pamac-aur for graphical package management if you wanna go that route
Fuck me. 5 installation attempts later, still can't get arch to boot after removing the live usb. Do I have the wrong fucking kernel, cause it can't find it during boot now. Fucking hell, I just want this shit to run.
