    I always think about our old computers that broke, what if I could take the parts that still work and do something with them, that would be cool

    Attiny 85!! Had some but just the chip! Used my Arduino as bootloader and for some even reverted the reset pin so that they could never get reprogrammed again, and used a hand watch battery (you know the button) 1.5v x 2 to get my energy sounrce ! The whole thing was so small it was so cool! Used also a multiplex to get many more pins for the ones I didn't reset-revert

    @theNox Coils and a few transistors, heat sinks pretty much what is worth salvaging since Capacitors specially if the old motherboard was from the ultra low chinese quality stuff they usually use really shit capacitors that either pop with long use or dry their dialectric liquid in them, if you are salvaging more current motherboards perhaps the Japanese solid state ones are worth the hassle along other components
