Doesn't WhatsApp use end to end encryption tho? Doesn't that make it secure from privacy perspective? Or is the problem the fact that it's not open source?
Should probablly summon the privacy lord too 😄

@Froot: I think the encryption of WhatsUp could be easily intercepted and decoded onto another phone. There was a video somewhere

@Froot It does use end to end crypto but ONLY in transit. (Also the code they use isn't open so good luck verifying it)
On the devices it's stored in plain text and WhatsApp still grabs all metadata it can which often reveals more about a person than the content so I'd hardly call it privacy friendly. -
@isawen True, that is, next to your registration and last connection date (rounded to the day) the only stuff they store.
They do store contact phone numbers if you allow it but the numbers are very strongly hashed. -

Did you say security?
I just said "bye" to all my Whatsapp groups, and finally got rid of that service ! (meaning deleting my account as well, not just uninstalling the app).
It's so hard to make people understand what is happening and what I think about security/privacy... Guess I'll have to wait for people to finally come to Signal or Keybase if they want to reach me more efficiently :)
