When you realise the actual language name is ECMAScript, not Javascript.

The language used to be called LiveScript when it was in development. Netscape then made an agreement with Sun to get Java to run in their browsers, and changing LiveScript to JavaScript was part of that agreement. JS was then later acquired by ECMA.
JS is just one of the many implementation of ECMAScript.
