Funny how everyone looses their shit over net neutrality but when mass surveillance is into play I hardly hear anyone :)
-
bondman2427y@linuxxx the two doesnt have to be related for a common man.
I don't care about surveillance because my life revolves around work,home and gym, anyone watching me is going to kill themselves out of boredom but net neutrality will affect me if I am going to have to shell out more for data based on what i stream or even based on what everyone else streams (demand+supply equation). -
@bondman Not caring about surveillance is a dangerous thing imo. Who'll know how the selection filters will be in 10 years? Maybe the 'ive got nothing to hide' data will hunt you right back or you don't get a job you needed.
You can't predict that. (Oh hai nice to meet you I'm one of the biggest privacy people on here) -
@JonnyCodewalker That's good.
I'll fight for the right of privacy until it's gone myself :) -
hell165967ySurveillance revolves around the fact that they know what you just stated and they also know things you don't even know about yourself.
This privacy issue goes way beyond , prices are being presented to you dynamically based on your online footprint, for example.
@bondman -
sSam14837y@linuxxx because there's a huge fucking difference. I don't mind the privacy stuff that much, I actually like that Google or w/e has shit personalized for me and if I want something to hide I just use VPN. Surveillance has advantages and disadvantages, if you don't like the disadvantages you can just not use these services. Net neutrality tho kinda has only disadvantages and you don't really have options...
-
@bondman But...But..the whole point of the bill is that isps could survey what you search? Is you not knowing what the the bill is?
-
bondman2427y@BitFlipped exactly and thats how they plan to charge customers going forward and thats why i am against the d***head ajit pai who is rushing through this and even the initiative.
-
@bondman So you don't care about security, but you will care about security if you have to pay more? This makes no sense.
-
@sSam Of course I can just not use those services and for exactly that reason I indeed don't.
But what if I *need/have to* email someone who uses Gmail, then how much choice do I have as for getting my data into those mass surveillance networks?
For example, at my study we used google forms daily and that was a requirement. I was highly against it but I want to get my fucking diploma so yeah I went along.
That's not giving me a free choice at all. -
@sSam I have a problem with any of the companies integrated in the PRISM surveillance network having my data. This includes google indeed.
Well it might be study data (I've never been to uni, the study system works differently over here I guess) but it always included my email address, student number, full name. That's a lot if personal info I'd rather keep out of googles hands. -
bondman2427y@BitFlipped what can I say.. i care about what comes out of my pocket..dont really have time to break the law so people watching me is not my biggest concern
-
bondman2427y@Dacexi Sweden is a socialist country so its different. We are capitalists which means we squeeze the blood out of every weak and helpless soul when an opportunity presents.. there is a world of difference
-
@bondman You think I care because I'm a criminal? I care that big business is raping my personal life for their own benefit.
-
bondman2427y@BitFlipped Never said you were a criminal, we all have our own ways of looking at things and reasoning. I have mine and you rightfully are entitled to have yours.. unfortunately neither one of ours counts ..its purely driven by how much ($$$) the lobbyists can bring to the table that to get the politicians (who have no clue) excited..some of them look like they are already bought out, so this is just a futile conversation between the helpless
WOHOO! WERE ALL DOOMED!
NET NEUTRALLITY IS DEAD.
Forever
and ever
