Find a purpose (a personal website, display your cv, etc) and then build up tp it!

I learned like that.

Then you'll want to add features and all that, in no time you'll have something complex. That's when the party starts :)

Same as any other language. By using it, and looking stuff up as you go along.

I like html books. Just avoid some ones that try to compound too much 3rd party plug ins into the material. i.e. html with bootstrap/knockout. it's a fine product is just stick to the basics at first.

learned a ton when i looked at the code of webdesign agencys.

Go to YouTube first, or find a bunch of HTML tutorials, if you inspect the HTML of some fancy ass page and you don't understand the basic, it will just confuse you.
