I feel that people give more importance to good portfolios and projects rather than college degrees in this day and age. I've come across many professionals (in different fields) who are self taught and who I feel have a deeper understanding that others who have degrees or Ph.D s. Does one still necessarily need to go to uni to get employed?

    I dropped out of uni.

Got an entry level dev job and have just climbed and climbed since then.

The lack of a degree has never been an impediment for me personally.

I had an “oh fuck” moment during an interview once though as they wanted me to do some graph coding and I completely flunked graph theory. It turned out that googling it and reading up and testing it actually led to me being able to do the test in the end anyway. (It was allowed)

My maths is what holds me back (numbers not algebra), but aside from that I think (and have been told) I’m a pretty good dev.

@Brolls wow... Thanks for the advice! I can't really drop out of uni coz of the money that's already been put in ( 😭 ) but yeah I'll keep it in mind.
