I hate people that freelance and say they will build someone a website for like $500+ and all they did was grab a free, pirated or purchased for $20 on themeforest theme and throw it up on a wordpress site. its criminal how much they rip people off and insulting they call themselves web developers. tempting to hack their WordPress but I would feel even worse for their customers.

I have had to deal with many clients who had their site built by these people and every single one of them complains about these things:
- It is way too slow
- It breaks all the time (after updates)
- it is too complicated to create new pages or update the structure.

I have to say, this is the biggest damn scam out there and there are way too many 'web developers' out there participating.

Don't get me wrong, WordPress is a fine tool, and when it meets my clients needs, I create a custom theme and build all of the functionality in generally less time than it would take me to download a plugin and figure out how to configure it, then ultimately hack it when it doesn't do everything the client needs.

might not agree with u, at $500 why do u even bother building a new theme, just get a template frm theme forest, remove all the unnecessary features,pages n plug-ins to the bare minimum, thts a good deal.
it's like saying u hate pipo who use bootstrap bse u think they rip off client's.
such staff(themes/plugins/gems)helps us focus on the important parts.
if it's huge project then fine do your own theme.

@kalibbala you misunderstand. the point is that people do 0 programming and claim they are a developer. they buy a theme for an already made CMS and just click and put words in. they don't actually develop. 0 skill is required for that and it's insulting to those who actually put the time in to build a system. bootstrap is 100% different too. with bootstrap that is just components. you still have to develop the system behind it.
