    I've been regularly disappointed with hot sauces.

    I bought a bunch of scorpion and ghost pepper hotsauce for my girlfriend's dad for christmas, and every one of them was a disappointment.

    The only reliable thing I've been able to find is ghost pepper flakes. They're actually spicy and have a wonderful smokey flavor. Besides, it's hard to dilute the peppers when that's all you're buying.

    But hot sauce? blah. The "Sting & Linger" scorpion pepper hotsauce had "scorpion pepper powder" as like the 9th ingredient under "garlic powder" iirc, so... 😕 It was a mildly spicy tomato sauce. Made me really mad.

    My staples are Tabasco and Cholula for flavor, and ghost pepper flakes for actual spice. (I also rather enjoy generic habanero+fruit sauces. They're very tasty!)

    As @AlexDeLarge mentioned: shop based on scoville scale and flavor reviews! You'll find there really isn't that much to choose from on the higher end.

    @Root yeah, I'm trying to buy hot sauces based on reviews about taste. Now I'm trying to find something hotter than this that still has a great taste

    @Mayhem93 Yawn. 🙁

    The Scoville scale goes up to 16 million, with the spiciest sauces rating ~2m.
    100k is just... well, for comparison, ghost peppers are between 855k and 1.04m

    Seeing all the marketing of hot sauces that really aren't that spicy just makes me sad. (Some are incredibly tasty, though!)

    @Root I know all of this

    @Root I'm trying to find the tasty ones working my way up the scoville scale, my puprose IS NOT to find the hottest one. I got a lesser one with around 30k-40k (Naga & chipotle) that's incredibly tasty at the point where I would just eat it with a teaspoon.
