yes. and no one(ok except some SO fans) corrects you or gives their opinion. People seem to know that no one gives a crap to their ego.
-
@GurpreetSK95 Yes it's fascinating. I had a good time on Google+ which also was a place where people also got along but only had a few dev friends.
-
I believe it is because of common ground. We here see each other as equal developers, (or others are better) rather than on SO where you assume the person asking the question is a noob. It means you respect each other.
-
A bit OT, but will one eventually stop feeling like a noob when posting questions on SO? I mean I know I'm not the most proficient coder, but do you all also feel like noobs when posting there?
-
@siljamicke I've never had a problem since the day I started because my questions are usually so hard to answer anyways that it doesn't warrant down votes but it doesn't warrant upvotes either. I usually get maybe one half-assed answer. But that's it. It's a sad life to have hard questions to answer. XD

@tpalmerstudios A place like SO could be nice to if people answered when they felt like helping - and just let it be when they are in a foul mood :)
-
@siljamicke I don't dare post anything on SO :) Also usually I find answers after taking the time to break the problem down in understandable parts.
-
@Elkstorm, my proudest moment was when I posted a question that turned out to be a bug in Android, and not at all caused by me being a noob :-)
-
@Sleepy-guy Common ground is important. I like my nerd status but everyone need a sense of belonging to feel well in the long run. I got a dog recently and that gives me lots of opportunities for getting to know people in the local area. But devrant gives me a chance to hang out with people with shared interests :)
-
@siljamicke That feels good indeed :) I've had some of those where I could find a bug and actually patch it (not Android though - that would be to complex for me)
DevRant feels a lot like home. Not because I'm a pro developer - I'll probably never be one. But because I get to spend time with "my people". It's like when I went to Dreamhack for work and after 30+ years of being weird there were suddenly over four thousand people just like me.
There is no shortage of online IT culture but devRant is unique. It could have become the usual cesspool of hate, misogony, trolling but hasn't. Somehow it gives me hope to se a place meant for blowing of steam turning out to be one of the more respectful communities. So - thanks people! Your rants actually make my days a little better.
