My one goal is to build something that lets me stay at home with my lil girl all day. Have been thinking about my own company for a while, there are 2 software companies in town with very weak tech stacks. I know I am better and can do better. So my goal is to build my own company and hire enough people to take care of it while I spend more time with my daughter. I get sad when I have to drop her off at the daycare while me and the wife have to go to work. All I want to do is be with my family.

Ummmm... Starting your own company will be like 16h days 2 years straight. Good in the long term but sucks in the present... tho most things in life are like that it seems 😄

@Froot you've had a company before? Cuz my family has (and still do) and if anything I would say that they have waaay too much free time

You wont have much of a business if you don’t put the hours. Maybe after its established you can take the foot off the pedal but I have to agree with @Froot

@helloworld woooow really? I would have never guessed that one needs to work for it and that there would be long hours. Thanks for telling me that it is not as easy as snapping my fingers!
I do agree with the fact that it takes time. But it does not necessarily mean 16+ a day for 2 years, I ain't trying to build a conglomerate, merely a software firm that has a client or two around town. The needs of the people in this city are fairly simple (I would know, I live here, I work here, I have provided services in the names of others before) so I do have a better idea of it and it is nowhere near that. It really does not have to be that complex, I ain't building a tech startup that has a product.

@AleCx04 I do, it's more of a side gig tho. Still means that I mostly only see my kid on weekends because she's asleep when I get home. I do work for my company after my regular job so I usually get home at like 9 or 10 on those days.

But if I was doing this full time I'd dedicate myself to it all the way. I'm not the sort of person to run a mom and pops shop on the corner. If I do it I want it to grow and get somewhere.
You'd probablly want the same as you mentioned employees. Employees are expensive, the taxation (here at least) is crazy on employment costs.
You also have to really really really trust someone to let them run the company, that you put your heart and soul in, for you. I mean, at that point, you've done the work, you've taken the risks, you've walked the walk. You don't want some knucklehead blow all that away.

Anyway, being an entrepreneur is awesome, the freedom is just great. But it does take work if you want it to go somewhere. Still worth it tho.

@AleCx04 Sorry, didn't read you last post.

I guess if you just want to do what you're doing at your day job then all you need is some clients and you're set. The first client will be the hardest. Also, quoting your job will be hard. It's a risk, what if it fails? Right? But if you have some clients lined up already and you know you can get a stable income that way then sure.

@AleCx04 what’s with the sarcasm? Just pointing out its no easy road, been self employed for over 12 years now. Steady income throughout with my own client base. Rarely limited to 9to5 though. When you talk about even one employee you start adding costs and that means premises equipment sales accounting nit to mention wages every month even the shit months. Your initial post made it seem as though it would be a piece of piss.

@helloworld the sarcasm comes from the assumptions made. I did not make it seem like it would be piss. What? Was I supposed to write down an entire game plan for the all knowing devrant community to analyze and tell me if it is good? I just said that I wanted to do it.

Lemme look for all the people that posted their goals and point to them that it will take them time and dedication because they probably don't know it.

And it is not bad sarcasm man, think of it as a buddy saying this whole tossing you a beer. Sarcastic yes, but not in a bad fuck you way ;)

I started my own since 2012. Now it is 2017.
I get to spend only nights and weekends at my home.

Hopefully I get much more free time by 2020. 🤞

@CurseMeSlowly hopefully bro! Mad props for having your own company. I would venture to say that the time schedule feels a little bit bette knowing that you work for yourself or what do you feel about it?

@AleCx04 in the earlier years, I literally slept and stayed at the office. But since last year, I returned to my home.

So yeah you definitely gotta sacrifice your personal time at the start until you reach a certain point. After that it is all up to you to plan and play 😎

And yes the feeling of knowing you work for yourself and knowing you are doing something for yourself and many others is a great motivation factor for me.

Probably my personality speaks as well. There are times I thought that I might have a better salary and better social life if I worked for someone else (especially when shitstorm are passing at the business). But I know myself pretty well that I could never make myself to work for someone else for long run.
