@github Of course it is but it's sometimes so amazing to see how a completely raging engineer can go from losing his shit to calm/nice in one fucking second!

Root825227yAfter working in a call center, and in retail, I can attest to this.
It's called your retail voice. You take on an entirely different persona -- someone nice and friendly who isn't stressed, and become them for awhile. -
Root825227y@QueenMorgana I use that voice when I have to deal with people I can't stand otherwise. Most of them still don't realize it!

coderme6557yI do this myself a bit. It's hard to hold back the irritation until after you've slammed the phone back in the cradle.

*phone rings*
Me: *screams gutterally at the ringing phone*
*phone bursts in to flames*
*phone contemplates what is phone*
*phone reincarnates as phone that is at peace with universe*
Me: *ceases screaming at phone, best professional voice in world, should get Guinness record* hello, how may I help you today?
I find it so amazing to see when my colleagues (or even me) are irritated/annoyed to the fucking point, swearing around and so on but then the phone rings and they are completely calm/sound nice/happy when they pick it up one second later. (we're Linux support engineers)
This job is the best fucking self control training I've ever had!
