I made a New Year's Resolution to take more of an interest in my Internet privacy. Feel like it's something I should have done a long time ago. I've stopped using Google search (DuckDuckGo instead), moved away from my Gmail account (Tutanota instead) and stopped using Chrome (Firefox/Firefox Focus instead). I've had my Gmail account since they first announced it and you could only sign up if someone invited you. It felt good to delete 7000 emails and what I estimate must have been 13-14 years of Google/YouTube searches. Currently experimenting with VPNs, considering paying for ProtonVPN soon.

    Search engine: ddg/searx.me/startpage
VPN: proton seems nice but they just entered the game. I'm a mullvad user, have used nordvpn and privateinternetaccess as well!
    Browser: Firefox indeed :)
Email: I've been a premium Tutanota user for years ;)

If you'd like more info/tips, just ask!

@linuxxx I saw you mention Mullvad in another post, it's the same price as Proton so I might look at that instead! I have Pi-hole running at home too, which is awesome as a network-wide ad-blocker. How are the speeds and what is the device limit for the €5 Mullvad package?

Speeds are hard to say for me as my Internet speed is about 1mbs haha!
Device limit is three. I'll probs set it up on my router once I've moved :)

@linuxxx Well I'm currently on the Proton free package, which even says "slow" on the info, so I'm sure it will beat that

Interesting, how do u all give up Google?

@odd13 Just got to change your habits a bit - instead of typing "google.com" you type "duckduckgo.com". Depends how much of a hold Google has on you. I used their search and email for years, but didn't get sucked into everything else like Google+, Hangouts, Google Drive etc.

@odd13 Oh that's easy: by not using it/its services. (for my YouTube is the only exception)
