Let's install some Addons! Hmm where is that menu item... oh could it be called Extensions? No? Wait... maybe Plugins then?

Maybe it's inside of a Settings window. Oh there's nothing called settings in this endless menu I think. Or is it called Preferences? Options? Properties? Configuration? Ugh and should I look in the File or Edit or Extra menu in this App, Application and/or Program?

Maybe I can Search for it?

OH YOU FUCKING NAMED THAT FIND INSTEAD OF SEARCH, YOU PRESUMPTUOUS PRICK, I CAN'T FUCKING FIND ANYTHING IN YOUR BLOATED GOO OF A GUI.

    :/
I don't think I've seen programs use "search" instead of "find." It's usually "find" for me.

@DrPitLazarus 'Search' is common on Windows, find on Mac (or even *nix) I think.

@lukegv Same with addons: Addons is the collective name for themes, plugins (single purpose, like an h264 codec in a video player, or single language syntax in an editor), extensions (little internal programs, like adblock in your browser, or git integration in your editor), and expansions (large overhauls of core functionality)

Yet programs are very eager to just use any combination of these terms.

This is why I told every single one of my colleagues (finally) willing to switch from Eclipse to IntelliJ they only needed one shortcut to get started: ctrl+shift+A (find action)

@wilhelmina Yeah and it's actually nice enough to provide filters in every settings window and context menu — and it highlights "plugins" when you search for "extensions".

There are some unofficial standards to when to use "Settings", "Preferences", "Tools" and etc.
Yet calling a search function "Find" is completely idiotic.
You don't necessarily find what you look for,but you for sure can search for it. Semantics that make sense.
