So I accidentally used an email as a username to create an account through Jira for mongodb to report a bug.. That apparently breaks the entire Jira login system. I cant recover my account, and I can't create another account because my email is already in use.. Thanks Jira for deciding I'm going to bar before I go home today...

Do you use Gmail or Google Apps by chance? You can use "username+keyword@gmail.com" and it will let you use a "different" email to sign up, yet it will go to your normal inbox!

@binarydigit how does that work? you have to keep the '+' or Gmail will understand a email like this: john123@gmail instead of john@gmail?

or the correct way to do it John+123@gmail?

@marcel @binarydigit Yes - you need to keep the '+' character to separate your actual username from the alias/keyword part.

Also worth noting that Gmail (not sure about Google Apps) also ignores '.' in addresses. So username = user.name = us.er.na.me and will all route to your inbox.

@samk @marcel Correct! It would be "John+123@gmail.com" which would go to your email "John@gmail.com" but register as a new address in the website you're registering for.

Thanks for the tip. Worked as advertised, I'll keep that trick in my pocket for later :)
