Does anyone have recommendations for a good offsite backup solution that’s like student-level cheap (or preferably free) that allows you to keep control over your data (I don’t want to upload my stuff to google drive or the like for privacy and government surveillance reasons as I’m sure @linuxxx would understand).

    My personal solution is a pi at home for the stuf i often access, like school files. The rest ill dump on a hdd in zip format encrypted. An then just dump the drive back in the drawer where it was. Just in case i need it later.

    @d3vnu11 Oh yeah, forgot about MEGA 😅

    @resdac does that count as offsite?

    @b3b3 any service you’d recommend for cheap?

    also, I’m looking for a good quality external hardware RAID controller if anyone happens to know of any

    @d3vnu11 something like this (I already have one but am wondering if there’s anything with a higher quality raid card) https://m.ebay.com/itm/...

    I can’t do anything PCIe because I have no slots available

    @DeveloperACE depends, i have it running on the back of my own website, on a sub, so the only thing i pay for is the 5v energy and the dns adress. The other is definitely offsite, even offline

    @Nanos and what about the nuclear threat?

    Or the resulting earthworms that may or may not be able to eat metal?

    @Nanos what about the satanic earthworms

    @Nanos (this is getting insane)

    Won’t that be blown away by the nuclear blast?
