The only time I've seen people legit use windows for a server is as a local network only file server...

Quit. Devs are used for light and small projects only!

@sunny44 it's like all it's good for... Yes I love Linux but I'm saying this as a technician who has worked at a high school that runs exclusively off of windows... Just... No

Read yesterday that SpaceX uses Linux on their Falcon. Well, it was only a small test flight.

@grosten but it would've been so much funnier with windows running an update on T- 30 :D

At least you know you will be making more money than him before long 🤷‍♂️

What your boss said is wrong, but what you guys are saying about windows server, doesn't make you any better

    I guess
    😠🔫
    There was boss

@dontbeevil, Yup dude! Windows have it's own advantages over Linux and Linux too.
But don't take it seriously dude 😂😂
    .
    .
But at Last "Fuck Windows" 😂😂😂

@sunny44 that's what I said ... but saying things like "windows is good only for local file server" doesn't make you any better than his boss

Windows is the best when it comes to consuming memory :)
  • 2
@azous the difference is about how you manage the memory, you're the os, unused memory is wasted... Tell me about chrome and electron instead???
  • 5
@dontbeevil I agree that unused memory is wasted, but overused memory is wasted too.

Electron is awesome and sucks at the same time, hope it gets better on the long run.

@dontbeevil I was a very little bit okay with windows until a server decided to auto update while that was explicitly disabled at 3am while I was the 'disruption manager'/on call and it took me about an hour to get that fucker working again.

If windows would ALWAYS start honouring the fucking disabled automatic updating option, that would be great.

@linuxxx Are you 100% sure was windows Server ... and not home/pro or whatever? :)
  • 2
@dontbeevil Windows home running on a server? At a hosting company? I seriously doubt it.
  • 3
True. Linux is only used by small startups like Google and Amazon.
  • 2
@Root you'd be surprised how many times I saw windows non server, used as server, and people complain
  • 2
@lxmcf You have seen nothing then 0.o

I've seen Windows servers being used in a company with over 1000 employees in just the Danish office. Let me say, that it was a horrible setup that should have been moved to Linux a long time ago
  • 0
@aaxa what could that possibly be used for... That just sounds like a recipe.for disaster...
  • 1
@lxmcf @aaxa so just because you prefer linux, it automatically becomes an horrible setup... it could not be a configuration or hardware or software or some other problem ... yeah make totally sense ... oh wait I work and worked in companies with thousands of employees and we use mainly windows servers... strange that we didn't experience any disaster and we still get profits
  • 1
@dontbeevil I'm not saying this as a Linux lover, I'm saying this from my experience with windows server setups in comparison to equal setups with Linux, both have there place
  • 3
@dontbeevil This has nothing to do with with preferring one over another. Sure, I prefer Linux, bit this was really a horrible setup for what it was supposed to do.

Usually I like to discuss stuff like this, but when you are putting words in my mouth and are displaying such a horrible attitude, I get kinda pissed. It always turns out to be a waste of time to discuss with people like you anyway
