That's up to the user in every way.

There's no good way to check if a user means to say she'll or shell.

I agree that people should use proper spelling in all things, but remember that this network is shared by non-native english speakers and teenagers who think it's okay to use words like `u`

Even if that be the case, they should at least be prompted in a non-intrusive way that they are about to commit an atrocity should the choose to hit the submit button.

I personally find it distracting to re-read in order to find out if it's a typo or not. @kevbost

@fortharris I don't disagree, but when most users are primarily mobile, misspelling the word funtcion is easy to do.

Doesn't most phone keyboards have spell checking? Honest question since I'm using iPhone myself but took for granted that Android has it too. I do however have to switch the keyboard manually to english and it's not always I can be bothered.

I am not familiar with how iPhone spell checking works but I do know that with android, you are still likely to enter incorrect words from time to time. @Elkstorm
