Whenever I see job postings with salaries this low I always wonder exactly what's going through the minds of the people running the company.

Who in their right mind would want to spend 4+ years working hard on a CS degree only to be offered less than what the average retail manager earns? I barely afford a 1 bed flat share on this salary in my part of the country...

I'm starting to run into more and more job adverts like this. Why are companies working so hard to rip of graduates?

Trust me, even this low, they're still very picky😎. Probably gonna ask you manhole cover problem, or reverse array on paper

They're hoping to be able to say "see! we can't hire anyone locally, please approve our visa application for this <cheap foreign> worker".

That's the cynical, vaguely racist interpretation.

It could also be, they're just clueless.

All that being said, I started at €24k as a graduate bit that was 15 years ago.

@DasKoder I think developers were like unicorn in the old day. Today, not so much. BTW, can you get visa with such a low salary?

well this has me worried now.

Welcome to the real world. This is a normal salary. You need experience to earn more money

@vacoup What? this isn't even close to normal in the UK. In London, most companies offer around 30k for a junior/graduate developer. Outside of London it's a little lower, but not 10k lower...

@FoolsGambit this is lower than new Zealand, a third world country

@zeoxo This is the lowest I've seen so far and it's an exception, rather than the norm. Sometimes salaries are a little lower because of the way a business earns cash - like museums, for example - but it's pretty rediculous to be offering 20k.

@sunfishcc You should move to the UK, I'm getting swamped in React recruiters offering me £450 - £550 per day for contract work, usually at least six months contracts 🀣

@FoolsGambit I worked on react and react native for just more than 1 year. It's very hard for me to switch to another job now. Since most intermediate positions require "4 year" experience πŸ˜‚

@sunfishcc Haha, don't even get me started on companies advertising "junior" positions that require 2-3 years experience... "So, you want a mid level deveoper that you can pay a junior developer salary to then?" πŸ€”

    Hey that's a very good salary...in Mexico 😐

@FoolsGambit most of companies are looking for graduates with 2 year + commercial experience 🀦‍♂️

Hey. Think about it in this way. If not a number is a number, then their requirements for full stack developer are valid. All you have to do is to wrap it with isJunior(me)
