You not liking a language does not constitute enough reason to not teach it. Instead of bitching about it git gud with it. That is what I do with languages that I don't like.

@FrodoSwaggins an apologist would deffend features of the language that are flawed beyond comprehension in contrast to the "good parts". Java is a perfectly viable language, your opinions of it are flowed in the sense that you have said that every Java developer in existence uses it the wrong way, which is funny since I have yet to read any published papers or books on your part detailing the right way since you are obviously the one and true expert. You not being able to use it in your domain is not a reason to hate it. Would I use cpp to build a website? No, does that mean the language is flawed or shit? No. If it were up to you there would only be one language to use for everything. Trying to make every problem a hammer and nail situation is harmful.

@FrodoSwaggins well you tell me. Because if the "hammer and nail' paradox continues to apply we will eventually do everything in JS and I for one do really not want that. And that is absolutely fantastic (your second part) since the language (cpp) is most definitely used to speed up the internet via all those awesome runtimes and whatnot. Yet, why would I spend aaaaall that time doing that when I can just build an entire web server from a single Java spark file? Or even simpler when I can just <?php ?> as needed? I sure as shit would experiment with it, but would not hold the customers paying me handsomely for the Java and PHP services that I already have for them with industrial grade support for the language features over my incessant wanting on my favorite language being used for everything.

@FrodoSwaggins and as outstanding as that is it still doesn't mean that the solution is the champion of all of them. I have php apis that are still running, extensible af and that require almost no maintenance whatsoever, the same I can say about Java. But would you ever post that code somewhere for the world to see? Or write something entailing how benefitial it is to use cpp over all the other powerful tech out there from .net to node.js, django rest api or rails 5? Because till then the only thing being used here is "i was able to to this better than all other solutions out there by myself and so its the best". Shit if you ever do post that sonbitch on github hit me up, I would certainly love to see it.

We should teach ruby instead ;)

Why? Why kill JAVA? Why kill any language? Pick the one that's useful for you and move on

Half of the people who talk shit about Java or any other language don't know shit about it. First learn the language so that you come to appreciate what it has to offer then you can go bitching around this is shit and that ain't shit. There i said it.

While I do respect your opinion, I believe Java is still a good option to introduce students to OOP. Plus, it's still very used in the industry, so having at least a basic grasp is a potential factor in your favor. :)
