I'm currently 2 months into a 6 month project for a large automotive client. After being derailed onto a different project a week after I started, I'm back onto the project I was hired for. I asked my manager today for some data from the client so I could move forward. He said "well, we haven't won the contract yet, so they're unwilling to give us the data at this point." Talk about being blindsided.
