This is what happened at my school after an update...

Well before I switched to Linux dear Windows decided to delete a system file with an update. Then crashed at boot. Then when I tried all methods recommended by m$ I placed the same file from a working pc of same windows. Guess what. Version mismatch.

That basically in Linux would have given you a "...... not found" error.

Problem was solved by the classical reboot
