Stack Overflow is a great resource for all sorts of programming hints and tips, information and...sadly, desinformation. But if you want to comment on something someone's said you need 50 reputation points. How to achieve that when you need rep points to do anything that could earn you rep points? It's a catch 22 for newcomers that are like totally excluded from any discussions at SO which is more sort of a read-only community to me. This is where devRant shines. Anyone can rant about anything and comment on anyone's rant. Some rants and comments are stupid, and some are great. In the end of the day, freedom of speech is a great thing.

@zokazavevu They are both some sort of web communities addressing devs.

@TerriToniAX yes ofcourse. I know but they are both different platform.

SO for asking the question that you stuck

Devrant for ranting about that question that made his/her fucked up.

@zokazavevu Yet, they are both based on users logging in posting and commenting. As for the community functionality they can be compared.

You can ask and answer questions immediately. And thats how you are supposed to gain your first rep

Hoping you already know what I am about to say. SO built that system to avoid spamming. SO is a knowledge repository so we can't afford to have some shitty people spamming our system and ruin the comments on the posts.

@simulate Sure. Problem is that whatever question I have, it's already been asked (asking duplicate questions won't earn me any rep ;)), and whatever questions I could answer have already been answered... :) It's a little like a pyramide game really. Early adopters have had the chance to contribute and gain rep, while newcomers get the crumbs that fall under the table.

@py2js Also true :) It's a tradeoff. Too little control and you get spam. Too strict and you put off even legitimate posts.
