For Software consultants.

I am newbie with 2 years of development experience. What should be my road map for being an independent software consultant in the long run.

If I were to hire you, I'd feel more safe if I could see a portfolio of previous consultant projects/jobs. With some client reviews like "Working with X was really great and we bla bla bla".
If you do not have that, then a good attitude and client respect combined with a reasonable price would make me hire you. After some projects are completed and you built up a portfolio, then you can raise the price.

First and foremost respect yourself and don't do/take anything that compromises your character, principles or energy. We are only on this planet once - at minimum we should have fun while it lasts.

“You dont choose to become a consultant, clients chooses you to become one”. Just enhance your skills and gain more experience. Specialize on a specific field and build your credentials around it like getting certifications. Goodluck to you!
