So I just read that Oneplus 6 will have a glass back and a notch. Why? Why all companies want to be like Apple? :/

@mohammed they don't join to apple. They just copying everything apple does. Which is a shame cause oneplus one up to oneplus 5t were great Smartphones

They recognise that people will pay for something that looks like an iPhone at a lesser price.

OnePlus's CEO loves Apple. He did an interview recently (with verge i guess?). In that he was totally fanboying Apple telling about how it is so good and was trying to justify why notch is good and all shit.

It’s an incredibly smart move.

They get the possibility of integrating additional tech now they know customers are willing to put up with the minor aesthetic annoyance.

Especially with the knowledge that it won’t always be this way, the notch will one day be unnecessary and the tech will just be fully integrated.

As others have said, there’s also the design similarity effect to be taken into account.

I mean... Samsung didn’t risk the ass whooping they got for no reason.

As long as it's marketed as a notification area and not a good piece of screen ruined by a notch. Its more screen, not less, remember.

And the worst is it has a chin despite of having a notch.

The notch method works though. Hardware that is crucial can be easily accommodated on the front of the wide screen. Don't see any other place to cram up the sensors and secondary camera. Coming up with an innovative way of accommodation of those would mean a lot of R&D... Something that all the smartphone brands have become sloppy and lazy about..
