Any Typo3 devs around here?
I want to know why would one go for this cms nowadays?? I had to deal with it for almost 3 years and cant figure out why it is still used :| does it really have any pros compared to other cms? words cant describe my hate for typo3 right now - and since we have more than enough of swear words on DevRant i wont go into detail :) (in my defence i dont have that much experience with cms‘s)

It definitely does have its right to exist and CMS systems are still necessary for those who seek to have a website for their company but have no experience with complex systems. I've been working with TYPO3 for 5 years now, experienced all the things from 4.5 to 8 and I gotta say that once you understand what kind of a powerful tool it is and once you understand how it works, it can, even though it can be troublesome sometimes, be one of the weapons of your choice.

Are you German? In the German-speaking part of the world it is just _the enterprise grade cms_ and is used by a metric fuckton of people.

It's super annoying and really shitty to work with, as a developer. The code is quite bad, it does not depend on a known and well documented framework, it does not even have its own thorough documentation. Support is a joke, community is weird - it feels like there are more "integrators" and PMs in that scene than actual developers.

PMs, clients and integrators love it, because the adminpanel has been looking fairly the same since fucking forever structure-wise.

There are lots of solutions out there that could replace TYPO3 and just try to pick something else to work with if you can. My boss for example is a TYPO3 partner and we do _a lot_ for TYPO3. A lot of our developers do think, that it is dated and should be abonded tho.

@Meta I feel more like "you get used to TYPO3" and know all the pitfalls and stupid ways to get around certain things.

TypoScript for example is a bad joke and should be replace with something sane.

@ynnk keep trying to convince your superiours of another CMS or even go with a custom solution, when the use-case calls for it.

I've seen people doing single SKU configurators in TYPO3 with Magento as a "sales backend" and that in itself is just a horrible idea and would be way better off by doing it custom.

I guess my point in the long run is, to not get locked in by one singular system. I know a lot of people that could be way better and further in their carreers if they would branch out and just not focus on one particular CMS or something like that.
