-vim-31257yBut nano users have nano brains... (I would also say dick, but in this era, there’s also whamen on the Internet and some guys don’t have dicks, so being a nice guy, I’m not gonna include that.)
Anyway, I have nothing against nano brains(/dicks), I’m just saying... -
@vahlambda well there is a good reason why vim is loved by so many, once you have put in the time and/or effort to learn vim it really is faster
-
I’m no vim master but it only takes 10 mins to get the hang of moving the input thing with different keys, switching between modes, using x or d to delete stuff, i, a or o to input stuff, using :x or :qa! to exit and typing a number before an action to multiply it.
Easy basics and at that point, it’s already waaayy ahead of nano for efficiency.
I’m no evangelist and I don’t care what people use, but I’d suggest it’s worth at least getting the hang of those easy vim fundamentals before making a decision. -
@dontPanic Vim yes, I’m onboard. I have vim and nvim installed with different sets of plugins for different tasks. I have no time for Vi and its old school weirdness however.
-
-vim-31257y@Daveloper I actually use nvim more than vim, because nvim code base is way cleaner, supports the same stuff as vim, allows plugins in different languages and loads them async
-
@Gobbas you wouldn't wanna open something like Visual Studio Professional to change a variable name aka quick edit

If @-vim- is on your bad side, maybe you should think before calling everyone an asshole. -
@-vim- well.
That's cool 😎😎😎😎
(what else do I say, except I made up that comment to sound cool but instead got a slap On the face?) -
vahlambda767y@bahua Not *everyone* uses vim, so I wasn't calling *everyone* an asshole. I was calling vim elitists assholes.
-
bahua128017y@vahlambda
Not better.
You came out shooting. You shouldn't expect anyone to be on your good side when you start at, "asshole." -

hell165967yI wonder what is the hype around vim and so few people using emacs, I see the idea of reaching ESC every time I need to execute commands not very pleasant.
I tried to use it, learned the basics, but it still makes me want to C+x C+s way more easy than ESC :w
Anyway... -
@azous I have a vim user on my team. When I get to his computer to help out with a question, I see him do quite long stuff for something which would take me a couple of seconds in VS.Code, or even less and more robust in IntelliJ.
And I haven't seen him do anything faster than I'm doing in my editors.
I also tried learning it long ago, but after a week of seeing that there's nothing in it that would make it less slow for some of my common tasks, I abandoned it. So maybe I just did a crappy job at learning it, according to vim elitists. Allright, maybe I did, but I'm not gonna repeat it. This guy is using it for years and I still witness it as being an inferior workflow. But I'm not gonna tell him to switch, because that's probably like stirring the hornet's nest.
I have YET to see any good reason to use it as a main editor. As for elitists - I don't care - I'm coding, I'm fast, I do cutting edge stuff in my field, I'm making money, I'm happy. -
hell165967y@AndSoWeCode yeah, most things end up being pretty better if you compare with Intellij , I mainly use it for development, I'm trying to switch back to emacs for this purpose but still it is lagging behind in the IDE sense, but in the editing sense it is way superior.
-
hell165967y@AndSoWeCode but I'm guessing that in the end I'll end up customizing intellij to match some emacs shortcuts other than it does by default
