Root826006yOn my lappy, I use the terminal for everything I possibly can. I have at least one open at all times. (Usually more)
But... Finder?
Um. I used it to find and open downloaded images a few times? That's all I can think of -
I only open finder using the "open ." Command in the terminal, since last year when i got my macbook it really anoyed me too. Now it doesnt anymore
-
@Root @RicoNijeboer i used to navigate to specific folder in Windows, SHIFT+Right click amd open CMD.
Now i have to type the damn path (which i cant copy) everytime. -
@nofckingcluedev @nofckingcluedev
Make alias for doing things like "cd Folder/That/Is/Annoying/As/Fuck/To/Get/To" so you only have to type annoying-folder -
@RicoNijeboer i made some, closed terminal, next time I opened it *poof* it’s gone.
I had to edit some bash files to save aliases.
It is getting out of hands -
It's a service you need to enable. Go to System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts > Services. Check "New Terminal at Folder". Now, when you're in Finder, just right-click a folder and click the Open Terminal Here option.
-
For deleting, you need to also be pressing Command button along with Delete button :/
As for open cmd in current folder that's something I miss, but I open a terminal, type cd, then drag the folder into terminal so that it's path is pasted in terminal -
@gitpush see my comment above. You can add right click, 'open terminal here' ability to Finder if your arm gets tired of dragging files around.
-
Open terminal at current folder:
Enable in settings. Right click folder in finder > open Terminal here
Copy path of current folder:
Select file in the finder and press [command + option + c]
Delete desktop icon:
[command + delete] -
@DeadInside lol it was just above my comment and I couldn't see it, thanks for letting me know 😀
-
Root826006y@nofckingcluedev That's how you save aliases between sessions lol
You should see my .bash_profile -- it's quite extensive -
jeeper59686y@DeadInside bless you. I could have searched it but I had already accepted no. Now the next trick is getting it to open iterm2 and not the shit standard terminal
-
zacg30316yYou could probably make an Automator workflow (or whatever they call it) to add these to the folder context menu
-
jeeper59686y@taglia I think it was mostly tab support and I switched before I was proficient at tmux so prob less of an issue now. Also iterm has better paste support
-
bahua129046yThe default terminal is a garbage fire. Whereas iterm is the best terminal emulator I have ever used. Keyboard based searching is just one of many killer features that no other TE comes close to iterm on. The quality of life bells and whistles are just absolutely without peer.
Me: Open terminal on current folder
Mac: No.
Me: Copy path of current folder
Mac: No.
Me: Delete this desktop icon (Delete key)
Mac: No.
Me: Lets move this icon to trash
Mac: Alrighty then, delete application.
Man i will have a hard time getting used to this, Windows had its cons but these small things made my life easier.
