coolq48207yIt's smaller, runs faster, uses less resources, much more customisable
That's my thoughts anyway :) -
stop68027ya fully customized os and a depression because it needed more than 5 tries to install it without errors.
-
Pacman and the AUR are far better package mangers than Debian based distros. I've never had to use a website to try to find a package to install.
-
It's a hobbyist OS. It's customizable and barebones. A lot of stuff doesn't "work out of the box". Its not very good for enterprise server software and hypervisors are buggy. If you got an old PC/laptop/pi whatever, its worth playing with. Its got some of the best documentation out of all the linux distros IMO.
-
@Torbuntu Yeah that does work. It really just boils down to a preference of do you want the package maintainers to take care of it all (Red Hat) or venture into a do it yourself method (Ubuntu PPA).

Try running arch in an LXD container first and see if you like it. Installing can be hard at first but I learned a lot Through that.
-
@1nt3rn3tc0wb0y Would anyone seriously recommend Arch as a server? It updates everyday and the packages are only signed without much testing.
-
@starrynights89 I was trying say that if you had any interest in learning enterprise server software, this isn't the distro. I only mentioned it because I got into infrastructure shortly after playing with arch and it ended up being a pain in the ass. I definitely wasn't recommending it ð

@1nt3rn3tc0wb0y Sorry if what I said didn't come across as sarcasm ð
But still, as a system admin there's a part of me that would rather Arch as a server than Windows Server just for a saner file system. ð -
mahaDev22227yYou'll get a good headache trying to install it if you're new to the environment. But once you get used to it, you'll probably never leave it.
-
@starrynights89 I work as an admin on a game server that runs arch. ð
The guy loves arch a lot I guess.
Still a nice arch install with a lot of automation for game server and zsh. ðŽ
Automatic backups, automatic resets. Sharing of players between our server and another server. Livemap on website of players.
Kinda want to get back in to it to be honest, so bussy at my work placement period/internship. ð -
@rootshell There's always something I have to learn then.
I've been cutting my own teeth trying to learn about Linux administration on my CentOS server while learning JDBC development and learn my way on Arch desktop. Everyday is an adventure before I pick up classes again. ðĪŠ -
Read the installation wiki FROM START TO FINISH BEFORE your begin installation! BEFORE!
-
meladath407y@rootshell running a Minecraft server for your buddies is not a professional environment.
-
@Linux Yeah all work is hard labor. Fuck having fun doing something or getting paid.
I love working on a bug before work or waking up 3 am cause there is an issue. -
jeeper58096yI’ve heard antergos is a good transition OS. More ready out of the box but uses pacman and other arch tools
I'm using Ubuntu and heard much about Arch Linus on devRant.. what can I get good in Arch Linux if I switch?
question
