External hard drive reliability question.

Im looking for a 2-4 TB external harddrive, depending on the price (best bang per buck).

I found a Seagate Backup Plus Portable, 4TB. It seemed reasonable, until i googled failure rates of seagate drives.

Do you guys have any recommendations for me? Anything is appreciated :)

    I use Western digital. But idk, failure rates usually come with extensive use and I hardly use my external drive. It's not like I'm going to spin up a server on it.

    But yeah, I like WD. I don't know why anymore really. Used them for years.

    @BigBoo @sabbonaut
    What both of you say made me step closer to Seagate.

    I alsp think youre right about the "only if you spin up a server on it" part, Boo ;)

    @JiggleTits Yeah I feel like. You are probably not going to use it that much. Just go with whatever is cheaper. As long as it's new it should last for a while.

    Don't get anything portable, you will just drop it.

    @raldo94 i won't. Theres a difference of dropping it and tossing it :)

    I have been using a WD one for last 2 years. No problem so far. Haven't tried Seagate.

    Always check https://backblaze.com/blog/... for real failure rate data.

    I use a Western Digital My Passport Air 1TB and have for the last 2/3 years. Works amazing at very reasonable speeds

    @JiggleTits its an value that means that you can write thus amount of data per year or lifetime before it breaks.
