c3ypt1c96548y@nblackburn Thank you man... Im just glad Im not the only one who feels or felt like this...
-
@c3ypt1c I had the same problem. parents thought I was hacking people and they kept telling me how bad I was...
-
@spl0 The point is parents should support you regardless and it hurts when they don't.
-
@spl0 OP is upset because he is not getting support from family and instead is getting negative support, which really is hard on someone.

results798yI wish you luck, try suggesting to them that the languages you use are your second, third, fourth and so on fluency. Your ability to learn syntax and grammar in another language makes your brain more fluid. These may not be spoken languages, but you can tell that you're building video games, or software products. They might understand then.

oh man, had the same thing. it all ended when I got somewhere and started earning 3 times more than my father and brother combined. now I'm the prodigal son and a genius and.. yeah, no. too late for praises. I'm over it.

Stick with it buddy! Take a moment to show them what you're doing, then bring up a jobs page that shows salaries for related positions, then drop the mic 😁

ds12391718yMy dad is also a programmer, so thankfully I've never had that problem. I've been yelled at in school though for "hacking the internet" when I was just doing a little packet sniffing and trying to figure out how it worked.

@c3ypt1c I know that feeling. and I can completely relate to you. It's been 5 years since I joined this business. I started off with simply HTML and CSS. Coming from a family of Doctors, Engineers, and Diplomacy it was hard trying to do something new.. [part 1]

@uziiuzair [part 2]
And being in a country where us IT people are looked down upon in society (talking about Pakistan) IT specialists are paid between 180$ to 300$ a month is what EVERYONE told me. Oh did I forget? Part of my family is also into teaching so they think they know what works well.. -
@uziiuzair [part 3]
It took me the first 2 years to prove to my family that this is a stable field. I made a couple of projects and managed to earn enough to prove them wrong. What I will say is, give it time.. In the end they will support you.. Mine do! (although my extended family still does not) [making it worse, Im into Arts now so they completely believe that im a failure that happens to make big money xD] -
@nblackburn true that! I was and currently am again in the same boat, they suggest me to try apply to McDonald's and Amazon Associates, not move to another country, which accidently is my home country that I haven't beenin4 years, it's a good contract, for a large company at a very reasonable salary.... fml

Keep your head up. You know that what you are doing feels right and that's all that matters. A lot of parents don't get it until you start making the money. It's a strange feeling when you start making more than your parents salary but then they really get it.
you know what... I'm pissed... I'm fucking mad... this has gotten beyond the point of annoying... and I need to get off my chest... I AM LEARNING HOW TO PROGRAM ANYTHING FROM PYTHON TO C++ TO PHP not "wasting my time playing stupid games" for over 3 fucking years... I tell my parents and they just won't listen... like they think that they're right but they're not... this is my passion and my future life and they shake it off like it's nothing! fuck fuck FUCK! FUCK!!! I really need a stress ball or else I'll probably end up throwing my mouse across the fucking room...
