I'm looking to rent apartment and I'm baffled by this very weird potential scam.

The landlady wants me to pay the security deposit and the first month's rent using a recharge coupon of a prepaid cash card called Transcash. This is in France btw. But she tells me that she shall provide me the agreement and key on the spot of transfer of the coupon. She also asked me to click a picture of the coupon and send it to her when I buy it as a proof that I'm genuinely interested in renting the place and her trip (she claims to live in another city) will not be in vain. Looks clean but my instincts are screaming that this is a scam. But the only scenario I can think of is them beating me up and stealing the coupons from me instead of giving me the agreement and keys. If it is a scam, I really want to know how they plan to execute it.

En france, il est important de passer par un cheque pour ce genre de dépôt.. Ou alors un virement ou quelque chose de traçable, le truc dans ce genre de situation c'est que les personnes veulent echapper aux impots ou autres taxes comme cela.
In france, its quite important to use bank check or a wire transfer, well sommething that can be linked um to you and the transaction. The main point in a non official transaction is not necessary to scam you but more to avoid paying taxes... (Especially if it is a holiday location)

@hube I asked for a certificate of ownership atleast. They fucking ignored that.

@oudalally The lady kept quoting "The agreement has not been signed so we cannot accept transfer". Such righteousness. Much wow.

@oudalally a debit card is not always linkable to a person as there is many option on internet or in kiosks for easy to use one with only the need to replenish by cash or wire transfer the account (could be compared to paypal but much easier).

@oudalally yep that's why wire transfer are usually ok (between established bank)

For me, the topical issue is renting housing. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Such scams are not uncommon in this area. Therefore, it's better to look for housing on trusted sources. This can protect you from scammers and low-quality options. Especially when it comes to renting expensive housing. I recently searched for a villa and looked at various options and sources until I found the right one https://www.ibiza-selected.com/en/ It's great to live in luxurious and comfortable conditions, especially since I can afford it.
