tl;dr: why is it so hard to build a pc?๐Ÿ˜’

why is it so damn hard to find the right pc components for developing/image editing/gaming/...?๐Ÿ˜Ÿ
i've been googling around and watched many youtube videos on what components to buy/what to watch out for/tips/problems/etc...
i want to build a decent pc for web, mail, office, developing, running linux as VM (for experiments), edit images, doing most in multitasking (and maybe also play some games) ... basically everything, but i can't wrap my head around what to choose๐Ÿ˜Ÿ
every time when i think (for example) "ok, ryzen 5 2400G, that must be it!' there's always smth negative about it, come on!!๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ˜ค
i wanted to make an AMD setup for 1000€ max

i feel like as a developer/"kinda it guy" i know what i need, then again i feel dumb as fuck, not knowing what to choose and i'm almost certain i will pick smth wrong๐Ÿ˜ช
do u guys have any suggestions for me/any help?

    It feels like you're over thinking this tbh.

    I can't tell you what you need, buy it just feels like you could be making it harder than it needs to be lol

    @Stuxnet might be true๐Ÿ˜Œ
    i wanted to find best price/value but still somewhat powerful, which seems quite difficult to manage

    Their is no perfect machine. But my advice is if your getting it for graphics. Nvidia all the way. Dont settle for any on board crap. Get youself a decent motherboard. That takes your preference of chip. And give the stick m2 hard drive a try. If your using it for gaming graphics processing. Dont load your os on it. Buy a separate small ssd for that. Keep at it. And dont give up.

    @cb219 Budget + power aren't a great combo lol.

    My laptop gets the job done but I had to sacrifice storage in order to get everything else close to what I needed.

    @skprog never thought about m.2๐Ÿค”, thought putting os and main programs/games on ssd and that's it๐Ÿ˜
    gaming isn't my main concern, i would also be happy if it wasn't all set to ultra super exremely high settings with a quadrillion of fps ... u know what i mean๐Ÿ˜…
    doesn't need to be a gaming rig but i also wouldn't want it to be set on low graphic settings
    kinda smth in the middle

    @Stuxnet think i need to overthink the price๐Ÿ˜…

    @ArcaneEye just reminded me of the famous middle-finger-"fuck you"-linus towards nvidia๐Ÿ˜…

    @cb219 Try looking at system76 for some good ideas! I love building OP machines.. but I'm also quite sure you could find some great inspiration which really should work on linux OS

    If u game too
    You can get i5 8400+1060 3/6gb combo
    And if u don't wanna invest in GPU
    2400g is ur best bet
    For budget builds
    I know you are going through too much benchmarks n comparison
    You will never gonna get THE best on budget u have to compromise on something look for things that you need don't chase the best build

    Always keep in mind to buy a build which support upgrades in future

    @cybergod what about 2400G+1060?
    or 1600/2600+1060?
  • 0
    @cb219 it depends on ur use case
    Intel vs amd here
    Display refresh rate
    Which memory you will use dual channel or single channel
    If ur main purpose is gaming or not
    Between 2600 vs 1600
    I will pick 2600 but i will suggest to invest a bit more to get 2600x
    Because there is not a lot of diff in price(better cooler)

    Hope this helps you :)
    Feel free to ask if u have more ques

    @cybergod i tend between 2400G/1600/2600, I don't have the necessity to overclock so I didn't have 2600x in mind.

    No main purpose isn't gaming, it's mostly all the other stuff in multitasking (as described), but if I want to game I also don't want potato graphics - neither do I need absolute highest settings ๐Ÿ˜…
    as long as it's more than 8 gigs of RAM I don't really mind about the channels (as long as it doesn't become a huge bottleneck)
    ... if you don't mind I would list my components so far, as a little review ๐Ÿ˜…

    @skprog why no AMD?
  • 0
    @cb219 sure go ahead
    Let me know the whole list of components

    https://pcpartpicker.com/guide/ find parts, find local retailer (everyone has same products), build your pc.

    @andrejus ok wow, thanks a lot โ˜บ๏ธ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ˜ฎ

    @cb219 system76 has a builder. They only sell Linux systems. Just want to make it clear :)

    @Kandelborg first i thought it was a youtube channel and i was like "... ok not many videos there ๐Ÿค” "
    ... well makes sense now after googling, yeah thanks for the advice (and the disclaimer) ๐Ÿ˜…
    only problem: i'm a GUI guy who likes beautiful, clean desktop environments with good interfaces, so no terminal please ๐Ÿ˜… , already tried a few times with linux but too many hurdles for me ๐Ÿ˜• , always having to go back to terminal for several reasons ... don't know whether i'll ever be able to switch from windows ๐Ÿ˜Œ
    but still thanks for the suggestion, appreciate it ๐Ÿ˜Š

    @cb219 If your system runs on 500W and components are compatible, you should be set. I'm not that experienced with AMD so I can't talk much about that. The rest sound fine ๐Ÿ˜Š
    Edit: explicit about what should be compatible (they>components)

    @bigus-dickus thanks for the suggestion but i think i might stick the specs.
    graphics-wise the 1080ti is a but too overkill for my needs (and expensive too๐Ÿ˜)
    i used the power supply "finder" of be quiet to find the power supply, it actually also recommended a 400W PSU to maximize the usage๐Ÿคท
