@gitlog unity got abandoned for a gnome mutation in 18.04, also why would I use unity instead of gnome anyway?
@Floydian haha thanks 😊 -
gitlog57646y@JoshBent you can always switch anyways...
A bit of work is better than lifetime with light theme -
@gitlog I mentioned in the post that you can fix it for now by just replacing the main css file (gtk.css) gnome fetches for gtk with the included gtk-dark.css in the same theme package, but it's just annoying that I got to know that through skimming the antergos forum, instead of atleast as a notice on the themes github or as a general alert on gnome-look
-
@rEaL-jAsE I just like to name my active laptop that, I am in no connection with the mentioned user :) though it's a great nickname for sure.
-
gitlog57646y@rEaL-jAsE @JoshBent so Josh's system name is Tesla.... Hmm
You working at Nvidia?
Edit: NameError: Josh not defined. Did you mean nikola? -
@Rundle I have finally a private repo where I documented "most" of my setup before wiping, if I update it enough and give it a proper structure, I could make it public, in case you would want it now, I could give you a quick breakdown of what it takes to get my setup roughly, if you're interested
-
Rundle5226y@JoshBent :D
If you're planning on making it Public, that would be fantastic! I''m sure other people would love it as well.
But if you're willing to give a breakdown, I would truly appreciate that. It's beautiful. -
Condor323366yThat looks amazing! That image in the terminal is particularly interesting to me.. how are you generating it?
-
@Rundle
- wallpapers, basically look through unsplash with the keyword "neon": https://unsplash.com/search/photos/...
- terminal: xfce4-terminal with a "vte-terminal" padding of 20px inside the gtk.css
- my gnome-shell theme I use is "Flat Remix Dark Miami", he has more here too: https://drasite.com/flat-remix-gnom...
- icons: https://github.com/PapirusDevelopme... you'll also want: https://github.com/PapirusDevelopme...
- gnome extensions:
-- Dash to panel (for the bottom bar)
-- Dynamic Panel Transparency (to set the opacity value)
(cont.) -
- the info displaying thing is called "neofetch" with a config that sets the xoffset and yoffset of the image to 20 (because of the above mentioned padding), you'll need w3m installed, more here:
-- config file location: https://github.com/dylanaraps/...
-- set "image_backend" inside the config to w3m as described here: https://github.com/dylanaraps/...
- I generate the terminal color theme always based on my wallpaper with pywal/wal: https://github.com/dylanaraps/pywal
-- don't forget to include it in your .zshrc or .bashrc so the theme stays: https://github.com/dylanaraps/...
(cont.) -
- my gtk dark theme is "numix-frost" (antergos default iirc), but with the new updates you need to force the dark theme css as seen here as a quick hack currently, as there's no numix-frost-dark yet: https://forum.antergos.com/topic/...
- I use ohmyzsh together with the included default "lambda" theme: https://github.com/robbyrussell/... you can set it inside the .zshrc after installing both zsh and ohmyzsh
(fin) -
Rundle5226y@JoshBent Awesome!!!
I'm going to try and block off a day to try this (that's hilarious because whats a day off?) -
Condor323366y@JoshBent thanks! Looks like it's using w3m-img to generate that wallpaper image.. very interesting! I'll check it out 🙂
-
@Condor there was also an in terminal file manager that uses w3m as its backend for image displaying, I think it was ranger? you could check that out too, to see how it works 😊
-
Gnome being gnome. Removing stuff that people want. They even removed background transparency from terminal iirc 🤷🏻♂️
KDE ftw 🤘🏻
P.S. It does look nice 👍🏻 -
@YourNemesis thanks :) I just can't get away from gnome extensions and gnome shell themes 😅
-
@JoshBent well, most of the themes are ported to kde as well. At least, arc and numix are
-
-
@YourNemesis oh right compton, I remember wanting to setup blurred transparency, but couldn't because of gnome 😌
-
Gnome is OK, but you should try DWM. It's fast, light on resources (unlike gnome), and objectively badass. You can customize the hell out of it, and all you really need to know is a little bit of C.
Update on my previous rants: finally got it working! after spending 2 days compiling the kernel and trying to fix some issues, I just reinstalled my laptop with a fresh antergos image, installed the kernel and both the speaker and headphones work just fine! no distortion, no weird chrome video speed ups, just works - it was probably just something I had installed ages ago to make external usb sound work.
I also used this opportunity to apply the missing grub theme and found this: https://gnome-look.org/content/... it's perfect with almost any custom background too.
Why is this a rant? well some asshat at gnome decided to remove the "global dark theme" option from tweaks, so now thousands of themes are broken if you want the dark theme, since the developers now have to offer the dark theme seperately, well numix-frost has had this reported since the 7th may and no response since, the hack to make it work is to replace the gtk.css with the dark equivalent gtk-dark.css for now..
