I had this happen to me too recently. If they signed a contract depending on the laws in your area and wording in the contract you can send their invoice to a collections agency.

When I was a freelancer, I finished the work, showed them the final work on the test system and then I said, as soon as you will pay me the system can go online. One time a client said, don't worry, you will have your money next Monday, but please let's go online this weekend? I Said yes, but I just put the system offline the Monday afterwards and waited for my money. The money came so fast that Monday, you can't imagine :D

Such bastards are all over place and there is but one escape from their clutches.

@deadpool88 Easier said than done when you are a freelancer and oftentimes living hand to mouth. Also not always possible due to project specifications or time constraints. The best method is to do it through a binding contract which will assure that yoi are paid regardless of the circumstances or else litigation will ensue.
