    A lot of cheap ones have only dc motors. The best source for steppers are the matrix dot printers. They are so old that they couldnt use the dc motor and dotted strip approach.
    Thats why you will always find steppers in them. The BEST source of them are the fotocopers, those huge machines can contain huge steppers can can be even used for large robots!

    Aliexpress isnt bad neither, it might be the best option for you, 4-5$ per stepper and drivers that cost 1$ per one. Not only its relativley cheap, all your motors are going to have the same working parameters and requirements. It is pretty rare to find 2 similar motors in scrap electronics. And if you have different steppers they will require different voltages, drivers so they wont overheat and die. In my opinion aliexpress is the best solution but if you dont want to buy them i wish you gl in your search.

    Well... My brother is a bobotics engenheir... What im doing he was doing 25 years ago without internet (cant imagine how I would learn alone back then) so, no old printers or anything I cal salvage... Got lots of CD Rom, hdds... Stuff he wouldn't use then.
    Finding a cheap way to power HDDs with no board now (I'm sagging they are steppers? If so I already have blades for a small blade saw)

    @GyroGearloose

    HDD's dont have steppers in them. They mostly have BLDS motors (three phase motors) they are great for hight speeds but definitly not for precision. Old hdds had a stepper that was used to move the IO head, it was pretty precise (more steps)(even more than todays steppers)
    I got a old hdd from commodore, it is huge and has the stepper but it is very rare to get them.

    @Gregozor2121 Do you know how to power HDD motors without the circuit board then? Like, connect wires directly. I can't find any good way to do it online.

    @GyroGearloose
    BLDC motors dont use DC or standard 50/60Hz AC.
    They NEED a driver/controler, you cant just connect them to anything that gives you just power.

    You will need a BLDC controler, you can buy it on aliexpress for cheap.
    You can use the cheapest one (few wats) because that motor is small and it wont be able to give you any significant tourqe.

    Someone already gave me a link to use them with Arduino and shields :p So I'm good...

    and I must stop shopping... Already invested so much....
