😎 = me, 💩 = client

💩: "I must emphasize that I'm on a tight schedule. I need this done in 2 weeks."
😎: I cut some features and take the job.
As agreed, I send a progress report at the end of the week to get feedback.
💩: *nothing*
😎: He must be busy... I'll call him if he doesn't reply in a few days.
💩: *doesn't answer call*
😎: Time running out, still no feedback, I assume everything is fine and finish it a day before the deadline. Suddenly:
💩: "Hi, how's the project going?"
😎: "...good... WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN???"
💩: "Oh, I went on a quick vacation"
😎: *wants to die a quick and painless death*
"There's only like a day left..."
💩: "Right... Soo, here's the feedback you asked for"
*dumps 4 paragraphs of stupid nitpicking on me (rants following)*
😎: *wants client to die a slow and painful death*

"If you're not available, your 'two week' timeframe is paused. That's on you, Ace." -me

ESPECIALLY since the customer accepted the role of giving feedback as part of the project.

Similar shit happened to me. You know what happened a week after he sent me his paragraph (yesterday) ? Guy went on another vacation today and asked me to push his new website to production (wtf) last night "so we can get it done before I leave :)"

    This shit was not agreed.

I sent him a paragraph of things that were not ready for production yet and he was like "hm ok well can we just make that stuff 'invisible' and publish anyway? :)"

    Jesus FUCK

    @devpit

"Sure, that'll be $COST for altering the requirements after the project's start, and you sign this that says I am not responsible for support, as this goes against my explicit objection. If you disagree, you're in breach of our original agreement, and you can find yourself a new developer."

Lessons learned i would say, getting feedback and having time to pickup that feedback is part of the work that needs to be done as part of delivering, i would suggest have it in a written agreement that feedback must be given in a timely matter while there is still time a head to pick up that feedback, if a client does not meet that condition it is not your problem, that way you enforce the client to take responsibility, instead of going on vacation :)

@p0s1x yeah, it never occurred to me to make the feedback part of the contract. It's in the client's best interest to give feedback as soon as possible, so I assumed he wouldn't forget.

Haha, this is like the guy who built a system for us. When we find bugs it takes him multiple days to answer the mail. I've reached him on the phone once. That was last week. He answered on the eighth call - after I'd switched SIM card...
