gugu10336ySo does this mean that people who wants to learn Java (students, FIRST robotics, etc.) will have to pay to use Java?
-
@gugu10 No, I believe you can use it freely for development and personal use! Only for production purposes you will have to obtain commercial licence.
-
@DanijelH I mean I already pay for Intellij Ultimate so... it's going to be wait and see I suppose. The Open JDK isn't an option because it doesn't work for enterprise Java. 🤔

Voxera113976yNot only is net core free its open source using mit and apache license
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/...
Meaning they can never revoke your license and you can fork it if you like. -
nicofee1716yIt means that you will need a license to further get updates to Java 8. You can and should use a more recent version of Java
-
@AleCx04 my opinion is that people for some reaspn dont realize that java8 is now legacy and they have to pay for oracle to support their shitass legacy system if they dont update
-
sSam14836yYou can and should use OpenJDK for production for free.
Also since Java 11 OpenJDK and Oracle JDK binaries are 100% compatible, and OpenJDK is the official implementation...
It's here, commercial use of Java after January 2019. On the other hand .NET Core is free. Funny how tables have turned. https://java.com/en/download/...
