Odradek7536y@rutee07 good choice. Oh well, at least I got a bottle of Glenfarclas (25 years) and a month free of house chores.
-
@Odradek7 Taht all depends on the point of view I guess. For instance, I had tons of ideas for crazy startups, apps, VR things and so on. But making it is most of the hard labor. Unless you are such a great programmer, that writing an app from scratch is as easy as scribbling on a paper tissue. For me it's not, and I might feel like I did the hard work in such a scenario.
But then again, no one except for the two of you was there and can judge. -
Odradek7536y@paranoidAndroid in any other circumstance I would agree with you, but I assisted him in every step. Also, there would be no app without me. To create literally an entire massive structure from zero, step by step and a workflow is not an easy-peasy thing. He basically did not think almost anything for it except the code.
I did not say he did not put any work in it but he will not have anything to sell or code if it wasn't for my ideas or me pushing him from behind to actually code it. Also, I told him what to tell the possible buyer step-by-step to get to the selling point. So... no, the code was not the hardest part of it. -
Ratsuky1016yas the aforementioned fiance i agree with what she said, the code was easy having a clear workflow, also yeah she had to push me to code it...guilty as charged
-
BadFox23316yI agree with the first comment. A lot of relationship even while seemingly healthy are surprisingly toxic.
-
Odradek7536y@BadFox fair point, but I guess everyone has some luggage that comes to the surface once in a while.
-
BadFox23316y@Odradek7 hmmm, true. That once in a while is too much for me though. Especially if that once in a while is that severe.
Mental baggage is all fine and good but that behaviour with it sure as hell isn't. -
@Ratsuky well, you know what they say. Behind every great man is a greater woman. Or sth like that.
-
Ratsuky1016y@paranoidAndroid Well that is never wrong and i couldn't have asked for greater woman than her.
-
Condor323326yI'm not sure whether someone implementing your idea is necessarily a bad thing though. Sure he should've credited you, especially as his fiance who helped him develop it. But this rant is very similar to the people with "billion dollar ideas" that they tell to the developer and then somehow feel entitled to own. Always remember that an idea is no more than an idea until you - yes you! - actually build it.
-
hm.
i am conflicted.
"EXCEPT FOR THE CODE THAT SHIT IS ALL MINE!"
i agree and disagree at the same time.
i agree, because yes, design is important.
but i also disagree in the same way you would, if you hired an architect to design your house, then you would take the plans, and literally built the house by yourself, stacking bricks, pouring concrete, doing all of that...
... and then the architect would come and be like "GTFO, BITCH, EXCEPT FOR THE INSUBSTANTIAL WORK OF BUILDING IT, THIS HOUSE IS ALL MINE!"
... he was an asshole in saying "my app"...
... and then you were basically the same level of asshole back at him. -
theruffus666yYou know, I heard the idea is the most importach thing... every startup starterupper knows the idea is worth at least 90%, so the programmer should be given at most 10% to make it reality. :D
Dear @Odradek7, the way you describe it - you gave him pointers, feedback and notes, not unlike that an author would receive while writing a book. Unless you took the time to actually code the app, you don’t own it :/ But if apps are anything like books you are entitled to a kindly worded thank you note in the splash screen though... ;)
Watch the Social Network or something ... you may be marrying a successful lizard alien :D -
Odradek7536yWhen I said design I do not mean how it looks, I mean literally everything that it does. If it were pointers or how it looks fine, no prob with it, I do this often for him. Also, my sister is an architect and some of my friends are writers, do you know what happens whenever I help them? I get credited for that. I helped one of my friends with her book, twice, do you know what she did? She gave me an entire page of credits because I gave her ideas and I told her what to change, and I asked her to cut it from the book because it was something „small”. BUT this is different, i did not give fucking pointers and „feedback”, I thought about every fucking feature from scratch in this case, mate. You may code it but I thought every god damn feature in it, I helped with every step especially with research, I fucking helped you to find and talk with the goddammit client because you were to „scared” to do it alone so no, do not fucking dare to come at me with „MY APP”.
-
Odradek7536yEspecially when there was no fucking app without me, especially when I gave up my sleep to fucking help you. So no, he „coded” yes, but he never thought of a single fucking feature in it. I fucking got behind with my fucking projects for him. You would not have what to code in the first place if it wasn't t for me. AND ALSO, THE CREDIT FOR THE HOUSE ALWAYS GO TO THE ARCHITECT.
-
Ratsuky1016yLet's all stop calling things as they are not she basically formulated a full whitepaper, or application blueprint for me all that was left was to chose what it would run on to met the expectations, which is a 2 hour job, as opposed to converting an idea into a viable whitepaper and also the full application blueprint, after she did that she was 100% involved in the development whenever there were problems or issues she would come and discuss the issue always proposing and providing solutions, although she might not have coded the application, i couldn't have coded for shit if she didn't give me a good whitepaper and a valid blueprint, what i did was just add new lines to connect the already present dots.
So fuken stop the misinterpretation for Trovalds sake. -
theruffus666yOMG... @Ratsuky I sincerely do not envy you dude...
As for you dear @Odradek7, please try and be more humble... We can compare the app making process to what architects, writers even sculptors do all day, but the fact remains, you helped to make the app better, but without him there would be no app in the first place...
My advice?
1. First learn to code, so you can keep all the IP and ownership for yourself.
2. Appreciate the craft, otherwise you won’t find many supporters, especially not here where one in tenth rant is about coders being exploited by bosses that overvalue their own contribution ;)
3. Profit! -
Odradek7536y@theruffus It is not about profit or him making the app for me. He was coming home disrupting me from my work and asking for help. It's about him having the nerve, after i stood two months without sleep to help him and to create something, to say he did it on his own, everything from idea to code, he dindn't code this app for me or to bring my idea to life, it was him saying his app was too basic to be real and disrupting me every day from work to help him so tell me who is not humble here please.
-
Ratsuky1016y@theruffus She has a very good point with all of that and i did indeed assume all credit so yeah, without her there would have been no app to code so, as they say in my country, don't put the carriage in front of the horses.
-
Ratsuky1016y@theruffus also i don't need you to feel sorry for me, if you stole someone's whole project and bragged to his face with it and got called out for it nobody would feel sorry for you, so feeling sorry for someone that got called out on a bad thing they did is like you're supporting that bad thing because you either do it and don't care or did it and don't care

As a something-designer and content writer, you would say I am pretty much used with people stealing my ideas and then bragging with them, right? Well, yeah, but not when I am fucking backstabbed by my OWN FUCKING ASSHOLE-FIANCE (hi, hun).
In our little depressing family, I am the one with ideas. One day he starts to work at a little very basic app and he starts bragging with it at me (mostly disrupting me while working). So I start giving him ideas based on what he experienced at work and what he could add to this management app so nobody will get the same shit as he did + several things + I basically designed it from scratch, how it should look, what it should do, who should access what etc. Anyway, he starts implementing them and then I told him „Well this is nice, how about we sell it”. I advise him on what kind of possible clients he should search for and how to negotiate and etc. Well, he goes to a meeting with somebody interested in this application, after, he calls me back AND HE HAD THE NERVE TO SAY THIS TO ME :
- Good news, MY APPLICATION would lead us in*blabla* market.
BITCH, YOU BETTER SLAP YOURSELF `CAUZ EXCEPT FOR THE CODE THAT SHIT IS MINE ALMOST FROM SCRATCH. SO SCREW YOU AND YOUR FUCKING NEED TO SUCK YOUR OWN DICK.
(i said that to him on the phone)
