why kotlin so special? everyone loves it. i as a senior java developer am sooo goddamn lazy to learn a new language just because of the hype. why is it so overhyped ?

You don't really sound like a senior developer to me if you were to ask about merits regarding learning a new programming language .....matter of fact I am pretty sure most senior developers do their own research and testing regaring a new language to make their own opinions.

Just an educated observation, an astute analysis if you will. I have never met a senior developer do something like this, so naturally it raised some questions.

Who care about is he a senior or not? If thats the problem, I ask as a junior dev. Just interested on hearing people thoughts about kotlin

Try it out and you'll see you'll never want to go back to Java. It's mainly syntax sugar. When you begin, you think it's just Java written a little bit differently, but as you go on, you get the hang on it and can't stand looking at Java code again ;)

@SukMikeHok no dude my bad. It would seem to me that I am not qualified to answer the questions of senior developers :D if anything you should most definitely create a trivial application, test out the speed of the solutions and peform some benchmarks, test out different schematics for different solutions to see if the syntax works for ya and learn a little about the internal implementation of the language to see if it fits as a long term solution for multiple problem domains.

You know, kind of how a senior dev would normally roll.

Me? I like Kotlin, but don't see it replacing Java, at least not for me!
