sleek34486yAlways wanted a raspberry pi couldnt decide of id want to turn it into a local server or go into IoT with it
-
@beggarboy Raspberry pi can even be used as a media center. I have one hooked up to a tv, and it plays 4k video from home server and YouTube very well.
It doesn't have a lot of memory so running heavy IDEs and local databases can be a problem, gaming beyond retro/indie stuff is out of the question, and internet pages won't be super snappy, but it's still surprisingly capable as a desktop computer. -
Loading9496y@Mizz141 People do that and I’ve seen people make it into a bitcoin mining rig. Takes a ton in order to do that

1. Flash sd card with LibreElec (tiny linux distro with Kodi preinstalled) or Raspbian (Debian for Rpi).
2. Connect 4K TV using HDMI cable. With modern TVs, audio & remote control signals can pass over HDMI, so you can use your TV remote for your RPI, and connect high end speakers using fiber cable.
3. With an older TV, connect a PC speaker set to the RPI audio jack. Install the Yatse app on your phone to use as a Kodi remote. (I prefer to also keep a keyboard & mouse nearby, just in case).
4. Connect RPI to ethernet or wifi. Plug in USB harddrive, or connect to your home server / NAS.
5. If you are into synced ambient lighting for that cheap brothel feeling in your home cinema, install Hyperion, connect your RGB led strips. -
Loading9496y@bittersweet Well if my raspberry pi wasn’t my main computer, I would love try that out
