Unless you really want to inflect pain on yourself, I think we're all forced to trust Google to an extent. I just live with it.

From a -commercial- perspective, I accept the point about vendor lock-in. I think you get it with all PaaS outfits though. Zeit's take on docker serverless is interesting...
