@Linux My point with IMAP is that every (modern) mail server out there keeps plaintext email of all their users on their servers, not just Google. That's the whole point of using IMAP over POP3. Every mail server operator can thus read, process and share the email on their servers. The only difference being that while every mail server operator can process their emails outside of the mail service, Google is among the few who actually do it.

As for JMRP, I had to register my email domain against it. The alternative was the ultimatum from Microsoft - register or we'll bounce all your email. Which is IMO some next-level shafting, as a featureful Microshaft alternative to what RBL already takes care of.

You can encrypt them with pgp actually. Either in the MUA or directly when they arrive into the mailbox on the server.

@Condor what mail clients do you use?

@ralnivar currently K-9 Mail on Android (supports OpenKeychain) and on the servers I'm also running Roundcube, but that's currently fucked and I haven't had the time or motivation to look at it yet.. especially considering that it's an issue with the turd called PHP. Anyway, that supports PGP too but does it inline, therefore it's subject to EFAIL. Hopefully that'll be patched in Roundcube soon.
