Looking for a suggestion here. I am looking to introduce my wife's niece to the "art of computer science". I am looking for something basic yet fun. So far, my plan is to help her design her own website with a blog.

How old is she?

@azuredivay Not forcing, I sincerely want her to make up her own mind about it. So i would like to introduce her to something that helps her later whether or not she continues in the field.

Building out a blog is a bit of a tough start though? I'd start with something simple like todomvc, and show her how to build out the site from there? Would also be able to use javascript as a backend (nodejs) for an easy start.

However you go about it - teach her the wrong way to do it first, then the good way, and explain why! everyone can follow a tutorial, but if you show multiple ways and tell her what is the good and what is the bad way, she learns something > feels like she accomplishes something.

lol just use Python or Java. (better Java actually...). use Dr.Java so she isn't overwhelmed with an ide and can just press play. XD don't overcomplicate it and just make a hello world application. Then after making something that takes her name and age and stuff ask if she likes it. then go from there.

Take a look at Scratch or Code.org.

Start from scratch by media labs, once she is confident move to nodejs or python.
